A well known Nigerian investigative journalist, David Hundeyin, has taken out his time to counter a recent statesman that was made by the former governor of Kano State, Rabiu Kwankwaso, claiming the people of the south east region are good businessmen and women, but not good at politics.While speaking, David Hundeyin stated it clearly that the Igbos are not good at politics, but 4 of the 10 States with highest Human Development Index (HDI) are in the south east and 14 of the bottom 14 are in the North. He went on and made it known that the north might be good at elections, but they are terrible in politics.
Mr Hundeyin further stated it clearly that the ultimate measure of how good at politics they are is the quality of life they are able to provide for their people. Ending his tweet, he made it known that if their only measure is by election, they should go ahead.
Based on what David Hundeyin has just said here, I really think that he made a vital point. If your people are poor, it means that these is absolutely no reason why one should be bragging that they are good at politics.

When future generations study leadership and 'democracy' in Nigeria from the period since 1966 to date, what would jump out at them is the tragedy of the type of unsavoury characters that drove the process....who saw 'capturing power' via do-or-die partisan-politics as an end in itself and not a means to a noble and visionary end that would benefit the masses they claim to care about!

For most of Nigerian politicians, 'winning' the presidency shows they and their ethnicity 'know how to play politics', and it's seen as an avenue to corner most of Nigerias' commonwealth to their ethnicity/region, their cronies and their pockets! It's also used for bragging rights....that 'my ethnicity has been president while yours hasn't, meaning you don't know how to play politics the 'sophisticated' way'! Meanwhile, the generality of their people are living from hand-to-mouth and on 0-1-0!
