Sadly, truth is Christian priests are being targeted by kidnappers. I think the reason is because the kidnappers see them as high networth targets from whom ransome can be got without much hassle. When the Bishop of owerri diocese said, after his kidnappers released him, that members of his church rallied and contributed over #40m I said it on nairaland that he committed a terrible blunder to have made that statement in public because kidnappers will now be targeting priests. That is what we seeing now.

You're right. We can't afford to fail 2023 and anybody elected must start working.

And hopefully the next election say 2027 the winners of 2023 will be judged if they didn't perform hopefully they're kicked out

Gunmen Have abducted a Catholic Priest, Rev. Fr. Peter Yakubu Amodu, in Benue State.

It Was Gathered By , that the priest was kidnapped at about 5:00 pm on Wednesday, July 6, along Otukpo/Ugbokolo highway.

The Priest was said to be going to Okwungaga-Ugbokolo to celebrate Holy mass when he was abducted, Learnt.

The Catholic Diocese of Otukpo confirmed the abduction of the priest in a circular signed by Rev. Fr Joseph Itodo, the Diocesan Chancellor.

"We write to notify you of the kidnap of Rev. Pr. Peter Amodu, a priest of the Holy’ Ghost Congregation who is working in the Catholic Diocese of Otukpo as Parish Priest of Holy Ghost Parish, Eke-Olengbeche," the circular read.

"The Sad Incident Occurred Yesterday, July 6, 2022, at about 5.00 pm along Otukpo – Ugbokolo Road, Benue State, while he was on his way to celebrate the Holy Mass at Okwungaga-Ughbokolo.

"The Local Ordinary, Most Rev. Michael Ekwoyi Apochi, has called on all Christ’s Faithful in the Catholic Diocese of Otukpo and beyond to earnestly pray for his quick and safe release as we intensify efforts to ensure his release

"We Commend our brother and all those in the kidnappers’ den to the powerful intercession of the Blessed Virgin Mary for their speedy and safe release from the hands of their abductors.

When Contacted, The Spokesperson of the Benue State Police Command, SP Catherine Anene, said she had yet to receive the report.

By paying terrorists for the release of previously abducted catholic priests, the catholic church may have opened up the floodgates for kidnappers to abduct their priests across the country consistently.

Don't get me wrong, I am not saying they should have abandoned the abducted priests to be killed by the terrorists or bandits. I understand that in the face of collapsing security infrastructure, they have no choice but to negotiate the release of their priests. I am just adducing a reason for the sudden rise in the kidnapping of catholic priests across the country. If they keep paying and announcing the millions paid as ransom, the kidnappers will keep kidnapping and that is the unfortunate reality.

There is a reason why countries adopt a stance of no negotiation with terrorists. Even where negotiations and ransoms are paid, it is always advisable to keep it as silent as possible so as not to set off a maelstrom of kidnapping from criminals that begin to see it as a lucrative and easy way to make money.

After all said and done, the government needs to do something radical to check this growing menace urgently.

God allows it to happen to them and sometimes to strengthen their faith in him. The apostles of Christ faced the same and Christ also informed all that will follow him that the world will hate them and they will be persecuted and tried. This is why the whole world is against Christianity and Christians.

All catholic priests from now on should have securities. They should be able to afford it. If possible, send delegates to see the Pope for support.

They should also have CCTV cameras installed.

I am sure you were among those condemning Bishop Oyedepo in favour of buhari when he was warning every one not to vote for buhari before 2015 election. Besides, the islamizaton agenda has been there but no one cared.

Christians get their convert by preaching peacefully. But the other guys do so with swords and rifles.

The root cause of all this Catholic kidnappings is because of the priest that was released by kidnappers and later came out to claim the church paid 100million naira.
That alone is a catalyst for the crime.

Why not keep quiet about the amount that was paid.
