He was shot and rushed to a hospital in Japan. In Nigeria, "he was shot and immediately rushed to UK hospital".

Chai. Japan used to be a peaceful country with a lot of nice culture that borders on respect!!

Get well soon Mr Abe.

He is most likely dead.
In Japan only the doctor can pronounce one as dead hence the media only use the term "cardiac arrest"

One governor who got badly hurt in a car accident some years ago insisted on being taken to a Nigerian hospital (Cedarcrest)...so not all of them.

LOL...Abe had retired basically. He has a condition called ulcerative colitis. He was not coming back to power, even if he wanted.

Is it safe to say "he has been taken out"?

He hasn't been taken out.

The man has retired essentially. While he is a leader of a faction in the LDP...the faction that holds power (the current prime minister is one of his godsons in essence)...he was not planning a comeback to power, and was campaigning for the local candidate for the party in the coming local elections.

Question: What is your reaction to the shooting of former Japanese Prime Minister Abe?
Ans:
Let’s see what’s been going on lately around the world:

A British PM resigning
A war in eastern Europe
Germany announcing its biggest rearmament since the last world war
A top Japanese politician getting assassinated by someone affiliated with its military
Global economic crisis
All we need now is some mustached Austrian getting rejected from art school to complete the trilogy.

In all seriousness, my first reaction was: when are the NPCs going to start blaming China for this?
Lo and behold, it didn’t take long. These people are predictable, if nothing else.

The thing is that Shinzo Abe being dead, especially now, is bad news for China and the Asia Pacific.

Abe began his career as PM by trying to improve relations with China. That was the platform he ran on - being somewhat pro-China. It was only due to pressure from the Japanese far right and the Americans that he was forced to tweak his stance later on in his career.

It didn't stop him from trying to work things out with China under the table though - just look out the number of trade deals and partnerships he built with China.

Abe played both sides well. He maintained a very delicate balance between South Korea, China, the Japanese far right, and the United States, for well over a decade, and continued to influence Japanese politics via his shadow government. For that alone, he deserves to be acknowledged as one of Japan’s most brilliant statesmen ever.

Unfortunately, if you’ve ever looked at the history of political assassinations in Japan, you’ll know that any Japanese PM who ever rubbed the far right the wrong way, or tried to smooth things over with the Chinese, had the bad habit of biting the dust early.

Hara Takashi (1856-1921), murdered for opposing the Twenty-One Demands, and trying to mend relations with the Republic of China.

Hamaguchi Osachi (1870-1931), assassinated by the far right for agreeing to the London Naval Treaty, and drastically cutting military spending.

Inukai Tsuyoshi (1855-1932), shot for being “too moderate”, and trying to rein in the Japanese military.

The fact that Shinzo Abe survived this long is kind of a miracle. But of course, he couldn’t stay untouched forever. Sooner or later, the far right gets what it wants.

Even if Abe survives this assassination (which seems unlikely), he'll probably be paralysed or vegetative, and not in a position to run things behind the scene. The chaos that ensues will be dangerous. Whoever replaces/succeeds him in the shadow cabal is likely to be less ambiguous or neutral, and definitely a lot more hawkish and pro-US/anti-China.

Who knows, Japan might even officially condemn China for the assassination. Hell, it wouldn’t be the first false flag operation they ever carried out:

War is unavoidable at this point. It’s more a matter of when, and where. Whether the first skirmishes will take place in the Taiwan Strait, or the East China Sea.

Crime of passion. Maybe because of Abe moving Japan from pacificist to more active nation.
