Nigerians Must Go Now! ( Noise From Da Ghana Folks) by buffead(f): 1:24pm On Jul 27, 2011 |
http://ghanaweb.com/GhanaHomePage/NewsArchive/artikel.php?ID=214755 It has recently come to my attention that 45 Ghanaians were deported from Nigeria and robbed by the government of the Nigeria by being prevented from even collecting their stuff. Historically both Nigeria and Ghana have done massive deportations of each others citizens. In 1969 Ghana deported up to 2 million Nigerians and in the 80's Nigeria deported 1.5 million Ghanaians while mocking the poor citizens by naming a bag after them, the Ghana Must Go Bag. I thought we had matured past the stage of such massive deportations but, if we have not then, I am of the opinion that it is time to deport at least 5 times the amount deported from Nigeria. That would mean we need to deport at least 225 Nigerians. Prior to the migration of Nigerians in the 90's Ghana was not known for several crimes like the infamous 419 crimes but, since Nigerians started coming to Ghana the fraudulent crimes have put our country on the list of the top 419 countries in the world. Ghana's good name and hard won reputation has been forever tarnished due to these criminal elements who have disrespected the kindness and welcoming attitude of Ghanaians. In fact, some of the low thinking ones among them view this kindness as a form of weakness and may prefer to be treated as they are in other countries which either deport them or execute them as a quick internet search will prove! It seems we are importing some of the worst irritants from Nigeria and if we don't get rid of them we are going to have to continue paying for their crime. Surely there are some good Nigerians but, the bad ones outweigh the good ones. The bad ones include those who commit the aforementioned crimes, and those who have unearned arrogance. By far the later irritants are the most annoying of the Nigerians and the first that must be deported! It is this arrogance that manifested itself when the vain minister within Nigeria had the audacity to deport migrants without letting them collect their things. This is by far the lowest level of primitive nature that can occur in 2011 and does not happen in any state where there is rule of law. I am sure their belongings are now being shared among the criminal element in that country. Thus, the time has come! We need an Aliens Compliance Order of 2011 similar to that of 1969 to rid us of the criminal element of Nigerians within Ghana. They have gotten the ball rolling again so, we must finish it this time. It starts by kicking all those who overstayed their visa out of Ghana as they are likely jobless and committing crimes. It continues by auditing the source of funding for many of the criminal businesses we have imported from Nigeria in recent years. It further continues by reasserting that if you are going to be a guest in Ghana you better follow the rules or, there is a consequence. After all, if the standard in 2011 is kicking people out without their belongings then, that is the least we can do. |

Yes, let them start with all the most lucrative Nigerian banks (refunding their investments first though), they should close down Silverbird Cinema for a start, they should send all the fee paying Nigerian university graduates back home, refunding any fees paid for the current semester of course. They should buy back all the land and houses paid for by Nigerians, Err, doesn't look so attractive now does it ? The point is, we need to get to the bottom of why these people where deported. The state governors should be pressured into divulging details and made to redress the situation where they had no power to do as they did. |

I don't think they need us anymore like even 5 years ago. Now they have everything we have. |

60 Per cent of all Foreign investment coming into Ghana emanates from Nigeria. That simply means that Nigerians are creating more jobs for Ghanaian than any other country in the world!! The Ghanaian government knows that without Nigerians, Ghana would be almost nothing investment wise! |

alj harem: Nigerians can invest anywhere they are permitted to, nobody forced Ghana to grant licenses either. I agree with you that Nigerians should divest, but refunds need to be made to them if they are to be booted out. Licenses to operate were paid for and granted. If Nigerians investment is to leave Ghana, they need to leave with their money in hand. Simple. Its not about "big brother", that was not my sentiment at all. Business is business. Ghana needs to start refunding moneys invested to bigger companies like banks etc, then Nigerians should leave. |

my brother agreed but there are some question we need to ask ourselves 1. licenses and co should not have been paid at the first place. was it not some few months if not years back that ghana said any nigerian investor would have to pay 300,000 dollars or so https://www.nairaland.com/nigeria/topic-473078.0.html https://www.nairaland.com/nigeria/topic-681147.0.html https://www.nairaland.com/nigeria/topic-273755.0.html https://www.nairaland.com/nigeria/topic-511430.0.html all the thread above show you how anti-nigerian they are, so why still stay there all in the name of investment |

alj harem: @Aljarem, I'm a woman actually. I am more talking of the banking and insurance licences, they were bid for and Nigerian banks etc were granted licenses to operate by Ghana. They should have been paid for just like they have been in other countries across Africa, outside of Nigeria. If those companies are going to be thrown out and stopped from using their legally obtained and paid for licences to operate, not because they have contravened any terms, there should be a redress in law and the Ghanaian government or bodies which granted them should fit the bill. We are not talking of lone Nigerian traders who had set up business in Ghana and were later asked to pay the $300,000 to continue. If traders paid that amount, and after accepting the payment Ghana now orders them to leave, then Ghana needs to refund the money, otherwise its plain old theft. We are talking about institutions that were granted licenses before entering Ghana such as Glo, and all the Nigerian banks (UBA, Fidelity Bank, Zenith Bank etc) which currently operate in Ghana and have followed due process to do so. Are you then saying that there should never have been any Nigerian banks in Ghana? Does that extend to anywhere else , or should Nigerian banks only operate in Nigeria? Do you not think that is an extreme view? To be honest, if the shoe was on the other foot, would you be saying that Ghanaian investors should never had entered the Nigerian market, or would you be saying that Nigeria is acting irrationally, even after granting licenses to Ghanaian banks and insurance companies to operate? Do you use the same measure with others as you do with Nigeria? |
