Saturday, 9th of July 2022 was the date for the Eid celebration throughout the world. Muslims in Nigeria are not left out of this wonderful event. However, Nigeria also has some traditional festivals.

The prevalence and pervasiveness of monotheistic faiths has no doubt relegated the popularity of traditional festivals in Nigeria. Nevertheless, adherents of traditional religions still pracise them very well.

Here are 10 major traditional festivals in Nigeria:

1. OJUDE OBA
This annual festival usually takes place the third day after Eid al-Kabir, to pay homage and show respect to the Royal Majesty, the Awujale of Ijebuland.

2. DURBAR FESTIVAL
It is held in some states in Northern Nigeria such as Katsina, Kaduna and Kano States.

3. EYO FESTIVAL
This is an indigenous festival staged to mark the transition of an important indigene to the great beyond in Lagos state.

4. OSUN FESTIVAL
This is an annual worship of the Osun goddess of fertility in the second week of August.
It takes place in Osogbo, Osun State.

5. ARGUNGU FISHING FESTIVAL
It is a bare hand fishing competition that is held in Argungu, Kebbi state.
