On Sunday, the 17th of July 2022, the Rivers State Chapter of Labour Party held an integration stakeholders meeting with members of the different Peter Obi support groups within the state.

According to Comr. Charles Wokeh, the organizing secretary of Labour Party, Rivers State, the meeting was geared towards unifying the various support groups of the party scattered across the state.

He said “When you talk of Peter Obi, we have a lot of support groups for Peter Obi…we as a party in the state see a need to have all the state coordinators of Peter Obi’s support groups, championed in one course, so that is why we called their heads and secretaries of all the support groups to come together and plan a way forward, a way we can actualize our dreams."

Some of the members of the different support groups aired their views as all sought a way to achieve their common goal.

Speaking, the State Women Leader, Amb. Gloria Abalani said the organizing of the women was already in motion, adding that the women were tired and ready for a difference, complaining about the current economic situation, she added that, the Nigerian currency no longer had as much value as it did before, according to her; “You can no longer go to the market with 5,000 naira, and come out with something good for your children.”
She said she was taking her sensitization to the grassroots, not ready to leave any stone unturned.

While the meeting advanced, speaking to Thav TV reporters on ground, the Labour Party Youth leader, Comr. Smith Christopher said that the party had plans and was strategizing on different ways they could establish an even wider coverage when campaigning. He said they intended to make the general public understand the need for a change, in his words “We have plans of even meeting town criers at the different local governments and communities where we will sensitize the general public, telling them that this is not the way to go, this way has not helped us thus far, we need a new way, we need new dynamics, we need a paradigm shift from where we were, to where we should be.”

“…We are here to tell people that, human beings are the structure we have, and we are going to harness all our potentials, we are going to work tirelessly to ensure that we bring a new phase to Nigeria.”

“Because, if i don’t do it now, the next time i would have the opportunity again will be twenty thirty something and imagine how old I would be by then, so this is the time and the time starts now.”

He ended by saying; "This is for all of us in the country, all of us in the state, all of us in the local government areas, because, we are tired of the norm."
