No fewer than four persons were allegedly shot yesterday when members of the Movement for the Actualization of the Sovereign State of Biafra, (MASSOB) clashed with police in the commercial city of Onitsha.

Daily Sun gathered that the MASSOB members numbering over 400 took to the major streets and roads within the commercial city to demonstrate what they called illegal incarceration of their leaders. They were trailed by a detachment of policemen which allegedly shot at protesters.
Addressing journalists yesterday in Onitsha, the Director of Information, Onitsha, Godwin Aguchima, said they  embarked on peaceful demonstration to show their dissatisfaction with what they called systematic and wicked clamp down on their members.

“Our greatest bitterness is the dumping of 82-year-old man, Pa Anayo Nwani in the prison” who they said was seriously ill in the prison, adding that the Federal Government should expedite action to secure the release of their members currently in the country’s prisons.
“We don’t see the reason why someone without arms should be arrested and detained since 2006 till now. The MASSOB defense counsel in Abuja, Mr. Kelvin Okoro, who tried to see that they were released failed by the ruling of the Federal High Court 5,” they said.
Also speaking, the Regional Administrator of Onitsha region, Chief Arinze Igbani, said: “With all these sordid experiences, torture, humiliation and secret killings of MASSOB members in Nigeria, we are appealing to the international communities to come to our aid.”

Meanwhile, the Anambra State Police Public Relations Officer, Mr. Emeka Chukwuemeka, when contacted, said he was not aware of the incident at the time of filing this report
