That arrogant man ? Good . That man is so crass and lacks wisdom . This same small package said Nigerian doctors can leave the country as they want because “we have a lot of doctor graduates to fill their positions” . when the doctors reacted by massively going for employment fairs by other countries , the government had to send DSS to disperse them . He is one of those people that don’t mean well for Nigerians

can u afford 500k as sch fees?

That's where funding from loans, grants, scholarships etc come in.

Or if you want free education...just know that Germany and Finland have free education...at the cost of a tax to gdp ratio of 45% . Ours is at 8.1%..plus only 30% of the economically active population/adults pay actual tax. You know what to do.

The money spent on Daura (Nigeria) - Maradi (Niger Republic) metro line would have gone a long way.

Maybe...considering the railway was funded by a loan, not by our budget money.

What universities need is far far more than the money APC raised from the forms they sold.

The problem is far more serious than you think.

unfortunately universities cannot run autonomously ..that will make them private university in every way

At the end of the day, the alternative is to

1.Make the 70% of economically active Nigerians that do not pay tax, pay it to the federal and state governments

2.Tax every working adult...including workers and farmers and herdsmen and fishermen...tax everyone

3.Use part of the money to pay for education funding.

Countries that have free education have tax to gdp ratios of 45-50%. Nigeria is at 8.1% . But anytime anyone mentions tax, people start crying and treating you like you are The Dark and Infernal One.

all dis stuffs u dey talk no go work... No be 9ja u dey..u want to copy the western style without putting the right infrastructures in place... What exactly is d government doing if they can't give Nigerians good education at a subsidized rate... Check not only at tertiary level... Go to your government secondary schs and primary schools it's nothing to write home about... I don't even want to get started with minimum wage.

Tor, the thing is, you want free education like the good one they have in Europe, and then when you are confronted with the reality...you start saying that 'it is not possible'

How did the Western nations put the right infrastructures in place? By taxes and more taxes.

Here in Nigeria, most of the populaiton does not pay tax, we get low tax to gdp ratio, our source of money is oil...and you expect us to subsidise education? Yet at the same time, have the kind of education that people pay over 5000 Dollars annually for?

You want free stuff, without thinking how we would pay for it. At the end, we would be taking loans to meet up...

And yes, I know we are poor. But at the same time, we still need money to improve our government universites...before the poor in those universites lose out to the rich going to private universites in the job market...because government universites are too poor to train them well.

These old people are playing with people's future and you are here saying rubbish?
No amount of taxes paid will not make any meaning with this present system of government we have.
Have you forgotten about the accountant general issue so soon?
What about CBN governor running for president and still remains in office. Where do you think the money was/is coming from?
What about the billions paid to politicians for doing nothing?
How come we have a mallam instead of a professor as minister of education? At least one who knows about the system. You are coming out now after months to display your gross irresponsibility. As education minister, were you supposed to leave everything for labour Minister or work hand in hand with him?
Until politicians stop sending their children to school overseas, our educational system will remain in shambles.

I will give you a counter arguments since the liberals you're arguing with won't. You don't need a tax to GDP ratio that high to pay for it. Those countries also provide universal health care. Second if you look around Nigeria not ever public university is closed only the ASUU owns are. State university like Kogi and rivers and few others remain open. The big issue is the federal government won't make a tough choice in either cutting fat, taxing the populace or allowing schools to set their tuition rates. Lol they along the rest of the populace is fine with rampant disfunction since they want everything for free like kids and don't want to foot the bill on front or back end.

In the past, it was the practice for some labour unions affiliated to the Nigeria Labour Congress to embark on strike in solidarity with particular aggrieved unions in certain situations.

This has not played out in the chapters of ASUU in state-owned universities, which have essentially left the national ASUU to carry its cross. Apart from one or two state universities which have local axes to grind with their state governments, the ASUU strike in federal universities has not received solidarity endorsement from state ASUU chapters as reports from across the country indicated.

it interest me to know that you know this is a public forum with a lot of different views but you are so stupid enough to insult someone with a different view. Learn to be courteous and respectful. Learn to read with understanding to avoid being looking foolish, i am sure you are a victim of the poor system. ASUU should not be paid and they deserve nothing because they add no meaningful value to the educational system of this country. There demands are self centred and has nothing to do with the needs of the students. Next time be careful what you say on a public forum. I will no longer glorify you with another reply. Thank you mr slowpoke

Oga, countries that have free education have high tax uptakes and high tax rates and don't rely on one source of income.

You guys won't vote for leaders that would improve our tax to gdp ratio and also diversify our economy.

You vote for the same old people in APC and PDP and now LP and NNPP

And you are here abusing me of supporting corrupt leaders.

Either we face reality, or we keep lying to ourselves.

Good morning.
