Muslim-Muslim ticket: Protesting APC members storm party secretariat

Hundreds of demonstrators on Wednesday morning stormed the national secretariat of the All Progressives Congress to register their grievance over the position of the party on the contentious Muslim-Muslim ticket.

The protest took place almost at the same time the leadership of the APC was unveiling former Governor of Borno State, Senator Kashim Shettima, as the running mate of its Presidential Candidate, Asiwaju Bola Tinubu, at Shehu Musa Yar’Adua in Abuja.

The demonstration, which was led by a few party members under the aegis of APC Hausa-Fulani Youth Forum, saw the delegation arrive the Secretariat in six luxury buses and few cars, raising different banners and chanting solidarity songs.

Some of the banners read ‘A cry for justice’, ‘Drop Shettima and give slot to our Christian brothers’, ‘Discrimination and mutual suspicion in our country’ among others.
Speaking to our correspondent, Convener of Forum, Abdullahi Bilal Mohamadu declared that they will not stop protesting until the party do the right.

On why the demonstrators took to protest on a day the party is presenting his vice presidential candidate, Mohammadu stated that it was a deliberate act to tender their grievances and ensure it reaches the appropriate authorities.

In a letter addressed to the National Chairman of the APC, Senator Abdullahi Adamu, and made available to The PUNCH, Mohammadu stated that they saw the selection of Senator Kashim Shettima as an aberration that should be corrected immediately by the leadership of the party.

The letter read, “We write to your good office in light of the prevailing circumstances arising from the decision of our Presidential candidate to select a Northern Muslim as his vice presidential candidate.

“While it must be stated that there is a right to make decisions, however, such decisions must not be made to the collective detriment of the sensibilities of the people that make up the country of Nigeria especially at a time of mutual suspicion amongst the Christians and Muslims in the northern part of the country.
“As concerned stakeholders of the APC and those who constitute the voting strength of our party , we find it worrisome that such a decision could be taken without recourse to its implication on the electoral chances of the party and the attendant uproar such a decision could bring about in the country.

“In our opinion, this is insensitive and a gross display of a lack of respect for our Christian brothers and sisters especially the Middle Belt minority who have given all their best to us as one northern Nigeria. Picking another Muslim from the north eastern part of the country as his running mate is politically and morally indefensible.

“In Northern Nigeria, there are credible candidates with rich credentials and with massive grassroots following that can complement the presidential ticket of the APC in the presidential elections. As such, the Hausa – Fulani Youths Forum sees the selection of Senator Kashim Shettima as an aberration that should be corrected with immediate effect by the relevant authorities within the party.

“The implication of non-action in this regard can only be imagined, so much so that the majority of the eligible voters in Northern Nigeria have elected to boycott the APC in protest of the disrespect and disregard to our Northern Christian brothers , whose population and relevance in the scheme of things in the region cannot be overemphasized.

“If our party is desirous of recording electoral success in the 2023 presidential elections, it must retrace its steps by selecting a Christian from the Middle Belt as its vice presidential candidate. The party must not be perceived as promoting a religious agenda by fielding a Muslim-Muslim ticket.

“We consequently say no to a Muslim-Muslim ticket by the APC. We call on President Muhammadu Buhari to kindly intervene to save the party from an electoral crisis. We urge Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu to emulate the example of President Muhammadu Buhari in the choice of his running mate in the 2015 and 2019 presidential elections.

“Our Christian brothers and sisters deserve a place in the scheme of things, and our party must not be seen as a religiously insensitive party. The time to act is now.”

Don't be deceived. Some of them are actually working for Atiku. It was a deliberate act to provide the duo of El-rufai and Shettima as the possible Vice Presidential candidates for Tinubu knowing fully well what each of them stand for.

All because of one bat's na-my-turn do-or-die selfish ambition exalted above National interests. To him, his selfish ambition is worth more than the blood of innocent Nigerians.
That same desperation will ultimately consume him.

NIGERIA IS ALREADY SERIOUSLY CHRISTIANISED LET US ISLAMISE IT A LITTLE

Ishaq Kunle Sanni

The Christians in Nigeria when they have an agenda to marginalise the Muslims on a higher pedestal they start screaming that the Muslims want to Islamise Nigeria
Ironically what is empirically provable is that Nigerian since the colonial era had been terribly and unabashedly Christianised unapologetically and if any Muslim attempts to point out this marginalisation and Christianisation the propaganda machinery of christendom is put in high gear and the person branded a fanatic and an Islamic bigot.
It is just inordinate Islamophobia at work.
Let me give two examples
When General Gowon for economic reasons took Nigeria to OIC on observer status with the hope of becoming a permanent member Christians shouted foul that Gowon their man was being railroaded to an Islamisation agenda of Nigeria through the back door. The permanent status of Nigeria was scuttled when countries with bigger Christian population who saw the economic advantage of OIC like Gabon and Cameroon became permanent members those who love to hate anything with Islamic connotation were shouting indiscriminately all over the place
When Nigeria ran into economic doldrum during Babangida's military interregnum the government a drowning one toyed with the OIC permanent member ship. Christians demonstrated in many parts of Nigeria to corroborate their disdain for the economic cartel. They have no basis except the Islamc appellation
At the end of the day it was a Christian President, Olusegun Obasanjo aka Aburu Maku, Ebora Owu ( Owu Demon) who was stampeded by another Christian Finance Minister Okonjo Eweala for Nigeria to benefit from the interest free Sukuk of the Islamic Development Bank. Ultimately Islamic Bank was introduced in Nigeria with Jaiz Bank being the pioneer
Interestingly most of the customers of Jaiz Bank are Ibos who are interested more in the elevation of their business than any primordial religious sentiments. SUKUK Islamic loan had been used to construct roads across the country being traversed by both Muslims and Christians
So what did the Christians lost by our membership of OIC and establishment of Islamic Banks? Conversely they have gained a lot and their unmasqueraded animosity for anything Islam would not make them acknowledge it
Young men now are oblivious of periods in our Nation when Islamic festivals were not granted holidays in Nigeria
The colonial carry over are legion
Our school calendar are tailored towards Christian festivals to allow our Christian overlords have plenty of time to celebrate their festivals
We have Easter break not less than two weeks. We have christmas break not less than three weeks. This allows the Christian children socialise and enjoy family affinity with their families a privilege unavailable to their Muslim counterparts.
Most Muslim children can not travel home to celebrate with their parents because only two days are magnanimously allocated by the Federal Government for the Muslim Festivals of Eid el Fitri and Eid el Adha
HAVE MUSLIMS BECAUSE OF THIS SCREAM CHRISTIANISATION?
Every Sunday since the colonial era all Government establishments used to close to allow Christians go with their families to church
In 1972 during Gowon era the seventh day Adventist who are in microscopic minority persuaded General Gowon to allow them a free Saturday so that they can have a whole day to go to church with their families
Muslims didn't demonstrate against this or accuse Yakubu Gowon of christianising Nigeria.
We Muslims have been made second class citizens in a country in which we have numerical superiority . Yet some bloody , shameless and Ungodly Christian leaders would go abroad to vomit gibberish that christianity through government officialdom is on the path of be

Hmm. People should stop disturbing themselves on how APC chose to field their presidential and VP candidates, APC is not responsible to Nigerians, but the elected officials through the party are responsible to Nigerians. Nigerians should endeavor to register their protest against APC Muslim-Muslim ticket in the poll. All these shenanigans just showing that some people might still end up voting the party after this protest. APC is not the only party on the ballot, people should look towards the other option (LP) sunce that APC has called their bluff.
