Call them cockoos in the nest and you are right.

Tea Party politicians are taking America to the abyss. In fact, she is on the verge.

What is happening right now in America can be described as a classic political trench warfare.

Republican congressmen - mainly freshmen/Tea Party goers in the Congress, are hellbent on a political logjam that will see the Obama administration run out of money in two days. That will see their country default on its debts.

Is this what they call democracy?

I am sure they are watching this debacle in China and mocking democratic system as well.

@Poster, what you need to do is TURN THE TV OFF . . . Then you will realize that all the hype about Tea Party has not CHANGED the core of Americans . . . Most americans see it as what it is, a group making news as many have in the past. It is when you turn on the networks that you begin to think they have actually taken over.

^^ . . . . they have not taken over. Nope.

But, they're powerful and unyielding.

@ola olabiy,

I will echo Kobo's sentiments that you need to turn off the T.V. some times. Did you cry that Obama and co were sending the US into the abyss at the time he, Reid and many others on the Democrat side of the aisle voted against raising the debt limit? Why did Obama declare it was a failure of leadership to raise the debt ceiling years ago and yet champion the cause today? You will need to overcome sentiments to address this issue and others with clarity and consistency of thought.

Great topic!

I was listening to NPR today and I heard something very poignant. Democracy cannot work in a polarized society.

American democracy is a system of checks and balances, this forces everyone to compromise and meet in the middle.
But what if a group is so far to the right that that the middle is still deep in the right? You get a group that wields disproportionate power. This is what the tea party has become, and despite polls that show 80% of Americans and vertually all reputable economists belive that cutting spending In a recession is a bad idea, They were still able to get their way.
