I wish this Nigeria happens on all the politicians who directly on indirectly have the slightest part played in the current fate of this Great Nation.

Meanwhile, BMC and Tinubu urchins are attending under-bridge and unrecognized universities.

Peter Obi's kids too schooled abroad.
Tinubu's kids too schooled abroad...
As did some of Atiku's kids.

Notice a pattern?

The reason why the rich are sending their kids abroad is simple.

To keep university accessible to the poor in Nigeria, fees have been kept very low. We pay less than 200 dollars for something that costs 15000 or more dollars, and the money to cover the resulting costs comes from a budget that before corruption comes to eat part of it, is already less than what Canada spends on education..note our entire budget including education is less than what canada spends in a year on education alone.

Now, I am not excusing Buhari, infact it is a shame that a whole Nigerian president cannot keep his kids in Nigerian universites. HAVING SAID THAT....our universities are in a bad state and have been like that for decades. At the end, many rich people, and even large segments of the upper middle class, middle class, even lower class send their kids out of the country (or if they do not want to send them out...to a private university.).

That's why ASUU has been on strike since 1974, 1987, and on a near continous basis since 1992...because they need more funds for the universities.

The problem is, where does the money come to make things better?

That's where issues arise.

1.If increase in fees is suggested....Nigerians will say no.

2.If increase in taxes, plus taxing more people...rich and even poor people....Nigerians would say no.

All the countries with good education systems have these things in common..

1.They have high tax to gdp ratios...eg Education is free in Denmark from cradle to grave...and their tax to gdp ratio is 46% . Nigeria is 8.1%. Danes also have a diversified economy...here we hinder our economy's growth via bad polices such as corruption, bribery, and the mass scam and price control monster called subsidy that has eaten half our nation's budget as I speak.

2.Or they let their universites charge high fees. South Africa...spends far more on education than we do, and yet...fees there are high. Very high.

The harsh truth is that it would be good if a law was passed preventing our leaders from sending their children abroad for school, or anything. But are we ready to pay the kind of money we need to have good public schools at all levels..be it in tax or fees?

If your answer is no, that we should make sure the corrupt politicians who have stolen our money return it...good. I want that too. BUT...what happens when we have spent the recovered money? How do we sustain making money to maintain all the nice things we got for our country with the stolen money?(The Soviet Union worked pretty well, until all the expropriated money from their rich elite got finished...then the war repartitions from WW2, and later the oil boom of the 1970's kept the darkness away.... for a while longer...)

If we are not willing to pay the money needed to get good government schools...we can vote out APC (Which is what I want), vote in Peter Obi(if the election ends in a runoff between Obi and Atiku, it makes sense to choose Obi)...and eight years later, we would still be making the same complaints.

If you want quality education from our public schools, then Buhari or no buhari...pay higher fees or taxes. If it is too much for you...well, when you pay N120000 for a Peugeot(cost N5million or more , even when made in Nigeria) ..don't be surprised you get a bicycle instead.(Peugeot used to make bicycles..though it might cost more than that)
