OP your title is bleeped. This is tribalism at its peak. Why not use all Lagosians enjoyed free education in Lagos Government schools. Why single out Igbos? For Government free education, those of us in the Jakande schools enjoyed it. We only paid a small levy for school upkeep. I can also say Tinubu made NECO free for those who finished in 2002-2003. Then from 2004 he dropped NECO and made WAEC free. But that was it.

Under Tinubu’s watch, no changes was made to the schools. The schools were an eyesore meant for only the children of the poor. An advanced public toilet, infrastructure decayed, we made chairs by ourselves. In fact we became Carpenters making desk in the schools. The schools had no security and fight was always a norm there. Thuggery dominated the schools. During Principal cup, it was almost a death sentence if go you out on uniform to the Volkswagen football pitch as your school rivals might get you stabbed.

For the WAEC guess what, majority of those who sat for WAEC got F9 parallel. We were told it was because it was state funded that was why there was a consistent mass failure from Lagos state students. Imagine smashing GCE in SS2 only to fail woefully in SS3. In fact it was a norm in the Jakande schools then that when you get to SS3, your parents will change you to private school inorder to pass your WAEC.

However, the coming of Fashola was a blessing in disguise. Fashola brought back the glory of Lagos schools. Although we’ve left by then, but you could see changes. Students no longer had to suffer to manufacture desk themselves as Fashola provided them. Schools got a new face lift, teachers salaries got increased and the Agbero life style that school were known for in the pass got a change and could compete with private school. Fashola practicaly renovated Lagos schools and even built new ones.

Tinubu may not be perfect but I’ll still appreciate him for the one he did. But when it comes to the facelift Lagos enjoyed, that glory should go to Fashola. Had he come out for President, trust me I would have campaigned vigorously for him. But at the moment, I’m Obidient and Useful. . Tinubu time is past, if he loves Nigeria, he should support Obi for President.

States in Iboland should have half of their Federal allocations sent to Lagos since most of their citizens now live in Lagos. That will be fair. Lagos is buckling under the massive migration from the east.

Oga stop deceiving people. Lagos was former capital. The colonial Lagos stretched from Lekki, Ikoyi, Lagos Island to Apapa, Yaba and stopping at Surulere. The only sections of Lagos that wasn’t part of the colonial Lagos capital were Epe, Ikorodu Ikeja and Badagry divisions.

However, from 1967, Lagos as the federal capital had more adjustment. It saw Awolowo cede Ikeja, Ikorodu, Badagry and Epe divisions to the federal government under Gowon. Ikeja military cantonment was practically the Head of state’s residence. It was Gowon who began the Ikeja airport and development of that axis down to Agege except for the industrial estate that Awolowo built. It was Gowon that began the mass development of the interiors like Badagry, Epe, Ikorodu etc with petrodollar up until IBB.

Ofcourse during the creation of modern Lagos in 1967, Awolowo negotiated a joint rulership of federal and state. While the state retained Ikeja as its capital, the federal government maintained Ikoyi as its capital. But the development was joint. For example, you will see a Brig. Mobalaji Johnson fixing streets in Lagos Island, at the same time you see Gowon constructing Festac and Gowon estate Egbeda. You’ll also see an Ndubuisi Kanu redeveloping the Apapa - Oshodi highway, while Obasanjo constructs the flyovers in Oworonshoki and still build the National threatre.

The 1967 decree that created Lagos gave it a special status and will remain so till date. An asset of joint federal and state. Any wonder why Lagos still enjoys a lot of largesse and federal benefits that others states can get.
