If you are familiar with the Nigerian Music scene, you would know that there has been a long-running debate about who the greatest contemporary Afrobeat artist is.

This debate has been solely between Wizkid and Davido, powered by Wikzidfc and 30BG-the fanbases of both artists respectively.

Even though Davido put up a very good fight with several hit songs but he was mostly surpassed by Wizkid who is obviously more musically talented and charismatic.

Apart from the fact that Davido admitted to the fact that he was inspired by Wizkid, he has never been able to match Wizkid’s musical success both locally and internationally.

This was largely the case between 2013 and 2018, but Burnaboy joined the debate when he broke into the international market and became the first contemporary Afrobeats artist to be nominated for the Grammy in the Best Global Music Album category.

Since the debate will not go away we came up with a parameter which would objectively assess each musician’s accomplishment and rate them against that of Wizkid– who International System of Unit(SI Unit) as far as African Music is concerned

Wizkid has Four Billboard entries: Essence, Brown skin girl, One Dance and call Me every day.
A score of 1 is awarded for entries as lead artist and 0.5 is awarded for entries as a featured artist


2. Awards Won (>50)
In a career spanning over a decade, Wizkid has won tens of both local and international awards. On his shelf he has Grammy, BET awards, NAACP Awards, MOBO Awards, and Soul Train Awards, and he is the most awarded Nigerian artist, with a total of 12 ,at The Headies Award, Nigeria's most prestigious award show.
2021 is considered the most successful year for Wizkid.

Wizkid has well over 50 major awards.

3. Years Active Since break Out
[/b]Wizkid released his debut album, Superstar in 2011, and he has not left the top since then.
He has been an A-list in Nigeria since 2012 and has not looked back since then. He has inspired his contemporaries like Burnaboy and Davido, as well as a new generation like Fireboy and Rema.

For this Rating, 0.1 is awarded for each year at the top with a maximum of 1 for more than 10 years

Until recently, it was almost impossible for a Nigerian artist to be nominated for a Grammy award due to poor western understanding of Nigerian pop culture and the stereotypical expectation of what African or Nigerian Music is expected to be.
Wizkid’s first nomination came in 2016 when he was nominated as a featured artist on Canadian Rapper, Drake’s Album- Views

Since then he has had 3 more nomination wins winning won; Best Music Video- Brown skin Girl, Best Global Music Album- Made in Lagos and Best Global Music performance- Essence.

5. Sold Out Arenas
Wizkid is the first Afrobeat Artist to sell out the Iconic 02 Arena in London in 2018.

Since then he has sold out several other times, and most recently for three nights in 2021 with tickets selling out in record time.

Wizkid has moved from selling his music to local audience in Nigeria to a global audience. He has music certifications in the United States, United Kingdom, and Canada.
He is the first African with a Platinum record in the United States with Essence which has sold over 3 million units.

Wizkid also has a silver-certified Album- Made In Lagos– In the United Kingdom

Made in Lagos has also sold over 420,000 units in the United States and should be eligible for Gold Certification later this year


8. Digital Streaming Platform Award
Wizkid won Artist of the year at the 3rd Apple music award in 2021.

The award show which started in 2019 extended it recognition to African artists in 2021 seeing Wizkid snatch the award. He was also recognised in 2021 when Made In Lagos was recognised as the most streamed Album.
