A year ago, the home of Nnamdi Kanu's Lawyer, Barrister Ejiofor, was invaded by the security forces. His driver, Gardener and Steward were whisked away to DSS detention Abuja and nothing has been heard from all three men to this day

2 years ago, a young girl called Idara Gold celebrated her 20th birthday by posting pictures of herself on Facebook wearing a Biafran dress. She was arrested by DSS, taken to Abuja, and last anything was heard from her was that she was in a detention camp in Niger State. She has not been charged with any offence to this day

Earlier on this year, 15 year old Chiamaka Okoro was arrested in Njaba and taken to DSS detention Owerri. She has been there for 5 months without charge and is reportedly pregnant.

These are just a few examples of how the DSS arrest people and detain them without charge for months, even years.

This is not about IPOB or Biafra or any other group, this is about the fact that anybody can be arrested based on any accusation, and kept in detention for years without any charge

Last year, veteran actor Chiwetalu Agu was arrested by Soldiers in Onitsha for wearing a Biafran dress. He was beaten and whisked away to DSS office in Enugu then taken to DSS detention Abuja. If not that Chiwetalu Agu is a celebrity whose arrest attracted public outcry, he would still be in DSS detention without any charge. There is no law that bans the wearing of Biafran dress

In what sort of democracy do you arrest your own citizens and detain them for years without any charge? Where is the justice in that? Is it the DSS that determines guilt or the courts?

A law must be enacted to stop the indefinite detention of people without charge because if it can happen to others, it can happen to you.

So, if you enact the law you think Buhari will obey the court judgement. Buhari that sent DSS officials to invade the residence of Supreme Court Justices (the highest court in Nigeria).

Things like these have been happening for so long.

Funny thing is, there are people who celebrate this lawlessness.

The National Assembly is definitely not interested in things like these.

Your epistle no make sense. Our DSS are doing a great job. Nigerians law are helping them to carry out their job effectively. They are able to arrest IPOB leader, Nnamdi Kanu. After he threatened to burn down this our beautiful Country.

They were also able to deal decisively with IPOB Terrorist and their SYMPERTIZERS.

God bless our own DSS.

Nobody is telling the DSS not to make arrest. What is being discussed here is the DSS making arrest and keeping the person in detention for years without charging them to court

If the DSS is arresting people and keeping them fir years in detention without any charge, it means your DSS dont know what they are doing

The DSS arrested and kept some criminals and terrorist in their cell is to protect such persons. If the DSS wants to eliminate all the enemies of this Country, they can do that and make it look like the person is a victim of Rituals or Robbery attack.

It's not every crime that the Court judge. When you are an enemy of a Country, you commit a treasonable offence and the Secret Police don't need any Court order to keep you in their underground cell till thy kingdom come. If I lie, make you try anything funny grin grin

The Russian secret service won't waste time to eliminate any enemy of their Country. Same as CIA, MOSAD, M16 etc. Thank your Stars that our DSS decided to arrest and keep Nnamdi Kanu alive. Them for don eliminate am for that Kenya and make it look like it was a Cult war or drugs war.

Well that is not how democracy works and this is not military rule. In a democracy, every arrested suspect is presumed innocent until the courts say otherwise

If it were not for this rule, nothing stops a DSS agent who does not like your face from arresting you tomorrow, saying that you are boko haram, and keeping you in their cell forever

You don't need a law. If it already unlawful. There is a section in the Nigerian Constitution that says no detentions beyond 60 days if trial hasn't commenced no matter the reason.

The constitution is against arresting anyone and not charging him to court within 48 hours.

The security agencies break the constitution and get away with it.

The family of the victims can go to court to enforce the rights of the victims.

The laws also need to be changed to allow the victims to sue to the perpetrators personally. If Mr Joseph work for the dss and abuses his office and detains a Nigerian illegally, then the law should allow the victim to sue the very official that abused his office.

Right now the abusive officers are getting away with their crime.

I was told that the victim can only sue a public officer who abuses his office within 30 months of the abuse occuring. This is bad, in 3 months the victim may still be experiencing the abuse or trying to recover from the abuse, many victims can not sue within 3 months.
