Why do you lock your doors at night? Don't you believe in God's protection or should strangers not be free to walk in your house at anytime and take your property?

This is very myopic. There are many reasons for password,like others pointed out Security.
Control is another reason. A password less wifi is susceptible to attacks from malicious users.
You can use up the Data(megabytes) too if it is not unlimited.
Users can commit crime, phishing, illegal download or upload and put the owner in trouble. i don't need to say more than this. If you still don't gerrit, forget about it.
