Mr. Effiong, a lawyer and an activist, is serving a one-month prison sentence for contempt of court after asking the Chief Judge of Akwa Ibom, EkaetteObot, to recuse herself from a case he is handling. Mr. Femi Falana says the chief judge has refused to provide Effiong with the certified true copies of the judgment, thereby delaying his appeal process. He added that his colleague was forcefully transferred from the IKOT Ekpene prison to UyoCorrectional Centre,where he was forced to sit on the bare floor while his head was shaved together with his beard. As long as the Judiciary retains characters such as this reprehensible judge, it will remain a joke to discerning people. |
