Congo is phenomenally rich in terms of mineral resources ranging from diamond to gold and more recently coltan which is used in mobile phones. That mineral wealth is paradoxically the reason that the Democratic Republic of Congo has endured one war after another dating back to its colonial days under the dreaded King Leopold of Belgium, generations ago.

This Al Jezeera video documentary is long at 47 minutes, but from the very start, this work of brave war-front journalism holds the viewer's attention with striking imagery conveying the unrelenting terror felt by a nation at war with itself.

Quite to the contrary, Congo's mineral wealth has been a magnet for invaders and investors going back generations. The country lies at the very heart of Africa and therefore holds enormous strategic value to all the world's superpowers.

Not totally different from Nigeria and other African Nation.
It's because we allow cracks is what makes the enemy infiltrate

The soldiers and even some of the terrain in this video clip strongly remind one of Nigeria. You've also made a strong point that when terrorists are allowed to trickle into any nation, it won't be long before the social fabric starts to unravel.

It's remind me of Walter Rodney's books, how Europe underdeveloped Africa. My submission was African is blessed with unpatriotic element that disguise as leader, which is why you see us repeating the same circle over. Patrice Lumumba was killed using Mobutu his fellow Congolese and a member of the armed forces.

Until we put greed aside and out the interest of the Nation first nothing is going to change.

Patrice Lumumba suffered a horrific and humiliating end at the hands of Mobutu's soldiers, simply because he wanted the Congo to become truly independent and in full control of that nation's bountiful resources.

Blacks should step-up and redeem each other instead of adopting a "defeatist" mentality because of their skin color or expecting deliverance from another race. Where is African Union?

Whether the Congolese welcome foreign powers or not, they will show up in order to reap the bountiful natural resources of that nation, just has been done since the days of King Leopold generations ago.
