Those airports you mentioned are mere landing strips which do not even have runway lightning in place talk more of sophisticated landing aids.

No international airline can land on these runway strips even in an emergency owing to their insurance clauses that permit them to operate only in Category A airports.

So until they put the right ILS systems in place and improve on security and get an upgrade from NCAA and ICAOO , no single international airliner will land or operate from there.

Kano Airport on the other hand has all the infrastructure, but western airlines have been banned by their insurance from operating I'm and out of Kano over security threats from radical Islamist groups. So you won't find one single western Airline operating in and out of Kano but only middle eastern, Turkish airlines

anambra Airport it not international airport I don't know what you guys takes international airport for,even muritala Mohammed airport is ok as in international airport but inside the airport, is one of the worst in the world

Anambra now has an airport, if they are serious they shoulod extend their services to Anambra as it will be easier for Anambra passenger to fly to Lagos and board a plane abroad than first traveling to Enugu to board a flight abroad and still stopover in ethiopia.

It’ll be nice to have direct flights from the UK, US and Canada to Enugu.

It’s draining flying from Heathrow or Gatwick to Abuja or Lagos in less than 7 hours then to Enugu.

On the return journey, you are still forced to travel to Abuja or lagos.

The fact that they want to increase flight from 3 to 4 a week means they are already doing good business.


Hope more International Airlines join Ethiopian on the Enugu route.

The FG has designated Enugu Airport as an international airport and had so far upgraded facilities and security in the airport to meet up to international flight standards


Ethiopian Airline was allotted slots to operate several days in a week.

The issue here is Ethiopian airlines complaining of a significant drop in passenger traffic from Enugu while experiencing growth in Lagos, PHC and Abuja which they noticed is mostly as a result of Igbo passengers preferring to use these airports rather than Enugu.

This is costing Ethiopian airlines money as they have paid for the route but are not seeing passengers which they used to enjoy.

The question now to ask is why are igbos not using the airport?

As I highlighted in this thread there are several factors which are:

1. Those who can afford to travel are residing outside the east or have relocated owing to the growing insecurity .

2. The activities of Igbo drug peddlers has made travelling to Enugu very hectic when passing through security checks as every intended passenger is treated as a suspect and subjected to rigorous searches.

Utter bunkum. The Umueri airport is for CKD Parts and occassional charter flight. No more, no less. Ebonyi does not need an airport at all. They should used the money to dualise Enugu - Abakiliki express road.

Ethiopian Airlines, your flight ticket cost from any city in Europe to Nigeria is nearly double the cost of most European Airlines to Lagos and Abuja.
Guess why easterners don't too much patronise Ethiopian Airlines.

It is better they use Enugu Airport. NDLEA is not allowing boys to rest at M/M Airport, Lagos. Those NDLEA and even workers at MM , Lagos, immediately they announce arrival of flight from Ethopia, there is drug consciousness.

NDLEA chased them from Enugu , that's why they are using Abuja and Lagos.

Soon they will change their names to northern names and be dressing like northerners when travelling to reduce the heat by NDLEA on them.

Beware of IPOB in d airport and I believed IGBOS will prefer Lagos airport.

If I live in Enugu and I can go anywhere from there. Why would I go to Lagos or Abuja?
The problem is lack of options.
For example, Ethiopian airline tickets are the most expensive airline in Africa. So if other carriers like Egyptair (cheapest) or Qatar etc are not flying in Enugu, people will do their maths and use what serves them best.
