Be it to chase our career dreams, get a new job, decide on a post-graduate option, choose a specialization, or just need someone to hear us out etcetera. We do need it in some way - even superman needs Justice League

In a Ted talk delivered by Dr. Heidi Grant, she talked about how to seek help. Below is a summary of her points with some of my views. Enjoy!

+ Say it out: well if you don't say it out, how do people know what you need? So reach out when help is needed, don't assume people should know. You know that awkward thing when people assume you need help with something and they turned down the offer? We'll be like can we just rewind and delete the scene?

+ Be Specific: be clear as to what and how you need to be helped. Don't make it vague but easily comprehensible by someone getting the information.

+ Avoid Disclaimers, Apologies & bribes: common! the reason you are reaching out in the first place is to seek help, so don't be sorry for reaching out. Don't trade help with a price tag - it's not a transaction. Give gifts if you are obliged.

+ Do not ask for help over email or text: Perhaps not all of us may go along with this including me. However, if someone you can easily catch up with or are available to meet, it's still very much preferred to the internet way. Should you then hold back if they aren't available? well, I'd say, make do with the options available.

+ Follow up: give feedback on how much the help rendered has been assigned to you. Don't you think it makes them feel better hearing this? But hey, how many people do follow up?
