This summer can be described as a summer of highly irregular buys when talking about players moving from one club to another. Starting from the buys made by high profile teams such as Bayern Munich, Manchester United, Chelsea etc. Ex Juventus defender Matheus De Ligt made his big money move from Turin to Munich for almost €85 million having initially been linked to Chelsea for around £70 million. This transfer window has seen other ridiculous big money switch such as £70 million paid by Chelsea for Wesley Fofana, the combined €170 million paid by Manchester United to Ajax for Antony and Lisandro Martinez, £50 million move of ex Lyon attacker Lucas Paqueta. However, big spenders Manchester City have had a very good transfer window having not spent abusively and have signed high profile targets. Securing the services of one of the world's most talked about strikers Erling Haaland and Alvarez while selling Sterling and Gabriel Jesus for a combined fee of £97.5 million now, that's good business. Traditional spenders PSG have also been cautious with paying exorbitant transfer fees like they've consistently done over the last 7 years. Barcelona on the other hand have gotten 90% of their transfer targets depsite the fact that the club's management have consistently insisted that the club is not financially capable of making huge transfer deals or signing too many players at the same time. Similarly, Arsenal has profited from her transfer activities at the start of the season. Getting a good striker in person of G.Jesus which has helped them top the EPL table and most interestingly, win all first four of her opening EPL matches for the first time since 2004. With players switching clubs for big fees, the question remains, are these players not been over paid for? An instance is Manchester United and Chelsea's recruits with specifics to players like Fofana, Antony and Martinez. Their fees speak far above what we've seen them play at their previous clubs hence, these players might most likely not live up to desired expectations. More worryingly is the fact that players will be continued to be sold at very ridiculous prices and most shamefully, will under perform examples are the Maguire, Morata, Lukaku and Pogba examples in most recent times. Perhaps, it is high time for clubs to start having a rethink.
