Hate them or not, the British Monarchy is the greatest contemporary institution. For a thousand years, it has stood firmly—through wars, economic downturn, pandemics, famine, natural disasters and in peace time. It is a symbol of stability in a world so tumultuous. I wonder how such a tiny nation became so powerful to have conquered and ruled over most of the world.

They happened to be the most technologically advanced hence they dominated the entire planet. Rather than wail about colonialism, develop your countries and make the best for your citizens, so that you will also be respected and valued.

Great kingdoms in Nigeria such as the Benin Empire, Oyo and others, sent military expeditions to conquer new territories and enslaved captives if possible, demanding taxes and levies for protection. The Fulani Jihadists did same. Most of Northern Nigeria and to a large extent, the West, were invaded and conquered by Usman Dan Fodio. From time immemorial, humanity has been on an insatiable conquest mission. A weak nation or people, will definitely be subservient to the whims of the stronger. Long before the British, the Romans conquered Europe (Britain inclusive) and other parts of the world. Europe was a perpetual battlefield of tribes, kingdoms and City states.The British only took it to a grander scale.

New forms of colonialism exist today. Neocolonialism is no longer through violence but in more nuanced forms—economic, educational, social, religious and other more subtle but deeply penetrating forms. America, Britain and the West would continue to dominate until others can stand up to them. Your technology is your strength. It is what determines every other metric.

Africa gained independence half a century ago but till date, our leaders still prefer Britain to stash their stolen funds, educate their children, for medical tourism etc. Their ancestors enslaved ours but their children are still miles ahead of us. We hustle to get their visas for study, work, medical care and more. If Britain wishes to reconquer Nigeria militarily, there's absolutely nothing stopping them. We are still very much at their mercy.

Britain pretty much laid the foundation for our modern civilization. They have done many great as well as terrible things but you cannot in all honesty not admire this country's greatness.

This isn't the time to rain invectives on the just passed monarch but a time to reflect on how to make your own country and race admirable, powerful and great as she and her predecessors made their country and race powerful and great.
