The raging dispute between the federal government and the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) that has kept many universities shut for more than seven months will shift to the Industrial court next Monday. ASUU had embarked on strike since February 15 to protest alleged decay of infrastructure at the various institutions, as well as neglect of the welfare of its members.

A reliable source at the Federal Ministry of Labour told THISDAY last night that the ministry’s Trade Dispute Department had filed a case before the Industrial Arbitration Court in Abuja and that the hearing would commence next Monday.

The Buhari led government has proven Once again that it is inept, daft and incapable of diplomacy. Imagine all the major issues of conflict in this regime today that could have been resolved by negotiation and strong diplomatic moves. This move is not going to end well for the FG.

Suing a Union that even the federal government lawyers are part of ASUU. Imagine suing your professor who is a lawyer in the court of law in which the presiding judge is/was his student. Even the lawyer you hired is/ was his student. I wonder how you want to win the case. Useless APC regime government lead by idiots.

They've held countless meetings and negotiations.
It's better to allow the court to give a verdict.

So federal government lawyers are part of the academic staff union of universities, that's enlightening.

The Professor ASUU president should resign as president of ASUU if he loses this case.

Going to court as it stand now seem to be a better option. ASUU has lost the sympathy of most Nigerians by not calling off the strike because of "no work no pay".

A wiser option would have been for ASUU to call off the strike temporarily for like 2 to 3 months to evaluate the extend government implement policies and to insist on their payment during the strike period rather than blatantly rejecting FG offer because of no work no pay, during the period of 2 to 3 month temporary ceaseation of strike FG should pay the 6 month on compassionate ground.

I'm not supporting FG at all, FG has showed time and time again that they are insensitive and irresponsive to the yearnings of Nigerians. FG is gifted in prioritising wrongly.

Going to court should come last after negotiation as failed especially in Labour matter like this but from the look of things negotiation has failed.

An honourable thing would be for both parties to obey court order(s)

Taking pple who doesn’t want to resume work to court, still looks same like a continuous strike action.
Until a court order has been given, the strike still continues.Nigeria and Unnecessary drama

ASUU is just too useless. This govt tenure is almost coming to an end.why can't they just call off the strike and allow the new administration to address the issue.ASUU is becoming political.

The issue of Court s not straight forward. Even if one of the team should win this one. The other will appeal.
They can drag the issue back and forth up to 2 years. It's another form of time wasting.

The only positive thing is that the FG can use it to it's advantage. When (notice I didn't say if) ASUU win the case, they should go on and do the needful and not drag the case further. It will also serve as face-saving for them.

FG has boxed themselves to a tight corner. This strike should not have even happened.

“School feeding cost FG ₦228bn while education budget is ₦109bn. You'll know the intentions of thieves even from foolish allocations of public resources.”

Copied.

Let them sought it out in court once and for all. It's better for the court to order ASUU to call off the strike than for ASUU to call off without achieving anything since government don't regard them. I didn't say they should earn like those in oil companies or politicians but they deserve a decent salary in order to be motivated. Since there's no money, why are they spending billions of money on primary school feeding which is higher than the entire budget of education?

I am not a prophet but these are the activities after this suing of ASUU.

I. The Industria court will hear the case after many postponment.

II. The case will be stroke out at the end of the day

III. The court will ask the Fed Govt to sort it out with ASUU

IV. The Fed Govt will still be adamant and would proscribe ASUU.

V. That will give ASUU more sympathy from well-meaning Nigerians.

VII. The dig dong will last till Dec when Campaign is ongoing by political parties.

VIII. Students will be used by Political parties.

IX. Election will hold,ASUU will still be on logger head with FG.

X. The new govt will strike a deal with ASUU and finally, they will resume.

The deed has been done. Most students are happy at home and already raking millions.
