Fibroids are common, benign growths composed of muscle tissue that can develop in and around the uterus. They are non-cancerous but may cause pain, irregular or heavy bleeding, and infertility. Some may shrink or disappear on their own while others require treatment with medication or surgery.

If you have a uterus, you’re probably used to monthly bleeding and cramps. But if your symptoms have gone from bad to worse, or if you’ve noticed heavier bleeding, bleeding between periods, or worsening abdominal pain, fibroids may be the culprit.
