OyeofIkoTuN:not a matter of forming Engineer are the owners willing to pay the right fee for a quality job? In engineering there's no such thing as "I got a good deal and saved money". Once you get a lesser bid then you get a lesser quality. 3 Engineers bid a job and you give it to the lesser quote without investigating why his quote is less and what he is removing from the job scope then you should expect whatever u will get. 2 Likes |

Roadside mechanic nah engineer, phone repairer nah engineer, bricklayer nah engineer for Nigeria. COREN AND NSE is doing nothing about this morons calling themselves engineer. A building like this is meant to be given to a certified CIVIL ENGINEER. God go help us one day for Nigeria 1 Like 1 Share |

Building collapse will continue as along as building owners are looking for cheap professionals, cheap labor and always ready to undermine professional advice and take the quackery advice from unskilled workers. |

I don't understand why when a building collapses the blame always goes to sub standard materials ... uncertified engineers and cutting costs when the blame should be on the city. The City department of buildings is responsible to ensure that the construction meets all requirements. If it does not ... then it is the City that failed in its responsibility. Who in the department of buildings signed off that the project met the required standard? As long as those persons are not held accountable... buildings will continue to collapse. Let's stop blaming the owners and engineers and focus on the root of the problem ... those in the city responsible for overseeing the construction. |

"An eyewitness, MC Governor, on his Facebook wall, said that he was reliably informed that about three persons have been trapped in the debris while one escaped by a whisker." I am praying those trapped are rescued alive. Building collapse while under construction is part of Nigerian culture. And it has been that way for generation. But which government agency in Nigeria supposed to step in and correct this problem? The inquiring minds want to know. And who is in-charge? 1 Like |

Hamiltonii:Dangote cement is OK. What about other houses that was built with Dangote cement that has stayed 10 years going still now! Before erecting any building, the first and most important thing to do is site investigation. I will list some of them but there are others. 1.Nature of soil - is the soil suitable to bear the load? This is where you take the soil to the lab and there's test on it to know the properties of the soil and what type of soil in other to recommend the type of foundation to be used that will be suitable. 2. Topography of the land- is it a sloppy land or flat land, water log, swampy land, it will also inform the Geotechnical engineer the nature and history of such land, some land has salt content in it because of the closeness to the sea which will require special treatment to the soil before doing any type of foundation. Some soils was used as a land fill site( dumping of waste on the land) Etc. Dangote cement has passed so many compressive test methods in the laboratory so it is safe and suitable for building. 1 Like |
