That's the right thing.

Nigerians will be forming James Bond with Police and other sisters agency but not with Army or Armed Robbers.

Also, it is when Armed Robbers begin to disturb them, that's when they would always realize that Police are necessary for any neighborhood.

MODIFIED: Well, I never said it's lawful for policemen to slap civilians, and I don't think that's what the OP said.

For clarification, what I mean is that Nigerians should stop looking at uniform personnel as their enemies. Not all of them are crooks, and not in every situations, do they go about looking for who to exploit.

Besides, Nigerians, especially, the struggling ones tend to see people above them as their enemies. They have disdain for all the Uniform personnel, Bankers, Politicians, Big Businessmen, "Nepa" staff, or just any other legitimate successful people that are not suffering like them.

This is wrong!

Rubbish..if your father is a policeman, advice him to retire and pray aganist curses

From my understanding of the state called Nigeria, i am sure you have not spoken well. As I do not see a professional policing culture in the clime Nigeria, even among you policemen, from my interface statistics with the Nigerian Police, less than 3% can be said to be of average standard of competence, capacity and character. The so constitution which you are trying to knowledge Nigerians about, represents nothing but a scam on the Nigeria polity. How can you encourage a Police officer (public servant) to intimidate, victimize and manhandle the very public they are supposed to be serving. A servant will slap the superior and all your so called constitution can say is for the Boss to go and report the ill trained servant to other superior servants. Nigeria is a Big Time JOKE.

Why can't the police report the individual instead of taking laws into their hands by slapping
Just on Saturday morning (3am) we got a phone call from our shop security man that some guys came to the shop and stole some of the armoured cables we packed in front of the shop, my boss drove out that early morning and went to sabon gari police station katsina, katsina state and the station gave him two police men , one of the police men had a rifle with him while his colleague had only stick so he drove them and as they came to the shop the security man led them to the route the robbers followed and they tracked those robbers and eventually saw them , they met with the robbers in a tight corner and the police officer with gun tried to shoot at the robbers who were carrying sticks and trying to attack them , he tried shooting but his rifle didn't fire and the next thing the police men ran away leaving the people that they escorted to there, when the police ran the robbers now had the morale to to chase after them,( na so everybody take scatter ooo ) . Why is it that Nigerian police always disappoint when needed ?

Just imagine what a so called professional is saying in public. Respect is reciprocal means you earn respect, u don’t demand it! The police serve the public not the other way around, and with power comes responsibility. All this PRO just told the public is that the NPF is filled with irresponsible people who have no respect for the uniform they wear. Which actually is a worse crime, but irresponsible people will never think like that!

Comprehension is key here, even in advanced countries, when the police mistreats you, immediate retaliation is not advised, rather a formal complaint or lawsuit is the proper action. This protects you more than anything else because in the moment of retaliation, things could get very messy real quick and the victim could become the offender, make we leave sentiments out of this and think in terms of logic, remember police are trained to act first, apologize later, life no get copy o!

If Policeman do mistake to slap me and the opportunity dey to treat him mess up dey without repercussions. Walahi, I fit kii the policeman that day. Even my papa never slap me cos I dey respect my elders, authority and even the law. So, any undue show of force/aggression will be unwarranted.

Policemen should respect their position and privilege and use their power judiciously within the ambit of the law.
A lot of policemen are rude, aggressive and poorly trained.

This usually leads to a breakdown in communication and ensuing violence.
Certain situations have occurred where policemen jump into people's car without due diligence is very unprofessional.

Most of them especially the junior officers are always seeking to exploit. Have seen the best of both worlds and overall, Nigerian Police are the most unprofessional people in the world IMO.

I have never seen police respond timely to a robbery attack. Not in Nigeria of the 21st Century.

thank you very much. The day I was been chased by some robbers just because I accosted them for causing traffic on the road and the next thing, the guy just brought out a pistol, the next thing I did is to took off and running towards some police officers on road block doing their normal collection of 100naira but to my surprise they also took off even with their guns and even left one of them behind that was chasing the police pick up. It was like a movie scene to me that day but somehow God just saved me. Police don't show up on a brutal robbery scene anymore, they go about arresting innocent citizen after the robbery

80% of the people don't have the finance to report and follow up with the case. Just to transport to the station or money to get a lawyer self na wahala, even human right self don dey collect money. They slap anyhow because they know nothing will be done even if you report them to their superior and that is why we keep experiencing the same thing over and over again.

Isn't that just an excuse tho? If an armed robber attacked you and you captured his or her face, would you not report it to the authorities? Why should police(officer of the law) be any different? Make we do things the right way in order not to regret our actions, hitting a police officer is wrong whether it is self defense or not.

armed robber too far, ordinary the agbero around, how many has been reported? And even if you report, how many of them has been arrested? This is Lagos where police station is now a business centre. And for your information, no one has said hitting a police officer is right and a police officer slapping a civilian is wrong also is just that when you report such to their superior nothing is been done about it. That is why they keep acting in that manner.

Yes we all know that but we are comparing two things, hitting a police officer in retaliation or reporting that officer. For now those are the only options, until something better comes along, I'm just advising the van dame people out there to exercise caution, no police officer is worth losing your life or freedom.

That's right. You can't. Your ass is going to jail.

IfnobeGod20:
Police PRO Adejobi, you're wrong. There is no law that empower any officer to assault or slap a civilian or anyone for that matter. You must know this universal law, for every action, there must be a reaction. You can not say because you wear a uniform and be tempted to start assaulting people about. It is an act of irresponsibility. An officer should be able to control his emotion and not allow it to override him. Slapping a suspect is not and can never be part of procedure for making arrest. So if any officer is tempted to slap anyone for that matter, the receiver is at liberty to react in proportionate manner. I am sure he will shutdown that message because I know people and the learned will correct his error, that comment only encourages those that wish to do such in the future.
He must also know that everyone has right to self defence. It is allow in law to proportionate defend yourself in case of an attack on your person, property or family. His message should have been more to correct his overzealous police officers, that they need to control their emotions and not be rule by it. I say it again, no known law permit police officer to slap a suspect on the cause of making arrest. Even the minimum force proscribed for an arrest does not include slapping. Slapping is tantamount to assault to a person reputation and uniform wore does not exonerate you from it.

Well said.
