We are not so intelligent a group of people which is obvious in the way we express our folly thinking emotion overrules logic on matters..... If you don't understand or can't comprehend a matter, just move to the one you understand there is no shame in it.....

The simple explanation is that Nigeria wants to set up a National Carrier in a 5: 49: 46 per cent ( it is a well-documented fact that National airlines run by Governments are financial potholes) so they want it to be an almost privately owned investment, so they invited tenders from the public and only Ethiopian airlines ( which is the biggest airline in Africa run as a 100% private entity) showed interest. In FG's wisdom, they don't want Ethiopian Airlines the full control of the " proposed Nigerian Airline" hence they sought out private investors to bring 95% of the investment fund while they control 5%, which is a sensible deal in as much as it will be an odd number of investors....

This is the crust of the matter.....

Now let the "mention" begin and let's see how far people are to logic and how close people are to emotion

Ethiopian Airlines is a well managed outfit. The JV will be the same way MTN came to Nigeria as an average company and became a major player in Africa.

A Nigerian airline with ET as operator will make it easy for Nigerians to fly London - Lagos - Enugu or New York - Lagos - Enugu than flying all the way to Ethiopia and back.
MTN, average company? Oga sah! What are you saying o!

APC is a disaster to this nation. All the party members are also as criminally minded as their party.

Instead of the government to adopt one of our airlines in Nigeria and upgrade it to a national carrier, they prefer accepting Ethiopia.

Shame

Good morning, APC is corrupt so also is PDP. We won't exonerate Obi because he was part of PDP. We must understand that the system in place in Nigeria is corrupt so even a "saint" will become corrupt once he join the system (government).

Let me give you an example, the allowance received by some government officials are 50/100 times their basic salary ( I don't know if you understand what this means?) A man in one of government parastaltle told me: "salary no dey pay, na allowance dey pay."

The Nigerian aviation sector is only for those who have very strong belts on their waists.

What we need is service delivery and not Nigeria bad brains.

I am asking, because, I read a part of the news bolded by you that no one bid or show interest except Ethiopia airline.

So, the right question should be, is Airpeace disenfranchised or the company decides not to participate by their volition.
Methinks, unless you and I heard from Airpeace, it is unfair castigating Govt to proceed with other people that show interest.

Shame and embarrassment or not, that is our current reality! We are grossly incompetent for whatever reason. All the firms you listed there and many more have failed over time, so its clear we lack the vision, discipline and operational capabilities to run complex businesses. Even most of the fine dinning and classy restaurants in Lagos are owned and run by Lebanese.

The only one we know how to run is where you just put table and chair outside and serve drinks and pepper soup/nkwobi.

Air Peace is birthed from corruption and will be killed by corruption eventually, similar to Arik Air. Give me Ethopian Airlines anyday.

Anything that would make Nigeria have a functional airline and national carrier is a welcome development; anything that would make NIGERIA AIR (or whatever they choose to call it) work efficiently is very much welcome.

Only people battling with inferiority complex would think it's shameful for the Nigeria to partner with the management of the most successful airline in Africa.

Exactly! What we need is something that works! If we are not capable at the moment, then so be it. Until we become capable by ourselves, let the next capable person handle it.

All the things we tried to do for ourselves as government, we messed it all up!!

Over 75 years in the skies.

Nobody shld be surprised, the Jihadist of president we have in Aso Rock is ready to promote anything of fulani ethnic stock, just as when voted for a Nigerien against Nigerian choice.
Read the post below:

According to a Facebook user, Efe Bazuaye who quoted Vanguard of 2015, Buhari voted against Paul Onu in 1985 in favour of a Nigerien Fulani. Read the post below

No be Today!
Between 1983 and 1985, Peter Onu of Nigeria was Acting Secretary-General of the OAU. At the 1985 Summit in Addis Ababa, statesmen like Julius Nyerere, President of Tanzania, lobbied for his election as substantive Secretary-General. However, there was a major stumbling block to Peter Onu’s candidature: his Head of State, Muhammadu Buhari, was campaigning against him. Buhari claimed: “This generation of Nigerians and indeed future generations have no other country than Nigeria.” But when the crunch came, his allegiance to Nigeria disappeared. In the election of the OAU Secretary-General in 1985, Buhari voted against Nigeria and for Niger instead. He secured the election of Ide Oumarou, a Fulani man from Niger; as opposed to an Igbo man from Nigeria. By so doing, Buhari became the first and only Head of State in the history of modern international relations to vote against his country in favour of his tribe... - Vanguard, February 3, 2015

In one sentence you mock the govt that only Ethiopian airlines bidded for the job. In the next sentence you blame the govt for not choosing Air Peace which from your understanding did not even bid for the job.

This is the sort of confusing stance that comes from people hating their country simply because they dont like the political leadership.

Had Air Peace been owned by Dangote, there wouldn’t have been much discussion as to who the national carrier would be! And if the couldn’t find any Fulani oligarch, then their next choice would reluctantly be to look for a Yoruba…one who’s ‘friendly’ enough and can play ball!

Look what they did with the 5G licenses recently auctioned. One would have expected that naturally the biggest players in the industry (MTN, GLO, Airtel, etc) would be the winners of the bid. But besides MTN winning, the next and only other winner was an unknown new entrant into the industry…..MAFAB! I suspected it was owned by the northern hegemony/oligarchs, and my suspicions were confirmed a few days ago when i saw who the owner was. Most likely he’s a front for more powerful and wealthy northern interests! Saw a news report few weeks back that MTN has now commenced its roll-out of 5G operations in selected parts of the country, while MAFAB hasn’t and has been given more time. You see how nepotism and other primordial considerations draws this country back?

I’ve always said fear who no fear these people! Their major aim, right from the mid 60s to date, is to control ALL the commanding heights of the Nigerian political-economy! And they have a well coordinated and ruthless operation that ensures their grip on Nigeria is not weakened in any way! Obviously, part of this script would have to entail sabotaging or undermining southern (esp’ Igbo) interests, as on a level playing field, they can’t compete.

Had Azman or Max Air been as big or bigger than Air Peace, they would have been a shoo-in to be considered as national carrier!

But why didn't Glo and Airtel bid sufficiently high! it was a very transparent process. The highest bidders won simple!! I can understand your cynicism given this is Nigeria, but it doesn't apply in all situations. Your shoo in statement on AirPeace and Azman may not apply because they would need to have applied first. The article CLEARLY stated that only Ethiopian Airlines applied. Not surprising given how terrible the government is with keeping its side of contracts and agreements. Besides how can airlines with zero international experience want to be our National Carrier? Seems weird to me.

Ethiopian Airlines is a good airline but I'm sure even they will get frustrated with the mess that Nigeria continues to make of aviation.
