gaby: Still won't solve the problem. The issue is, our power sector is not being allowed to make the money it needs to be profitable enough to fix things...unlike the GSM sector that was allowed to set its own prices and take its profits out of the country. In return, they could invest as much as they wanted to. That's why we have home internet, and can make international calls ...unlike in the 1980's when the idea of making a international call from home was a fantasy. And better still, government did not spend a kobo on gsm lines, antenna, infrastructure. We can get a 'patriotic' government that would come into power, and guarantee steady power supply...for N10 per kwh, and we would all rejoice...till we see the debt resulting from that. Debt that needs to be paid off. 1 Like |

This country called Nigeria is full of lies and deceit. This is a planned work, the earlier the federal government decentralize all these power generations of a thing, the better the country becomes in terms electricity generation and distribution |

incompetent lying b@st@rds since 1999. No politician can fix the power grid overnight. For every plant in existence today, 40 new power plants have to be built. That will take decades of hard work and decades during which not a single kobo would be embezzled. |

The president should Sign into law the bill to remove electricity generation, transmission and distribution from the exclusive list and place it in the concurrent list! In other words, authorise the STATES to generate, transmit and distribute electricity to their citizens! There are states with financial muscles that can do it! Or better still, electricity companies can obtain licence from the state government to generate, transmit and distribute electricity to some districts in a state! States that are not financially bouyant for such project can remain in the national grid or tap from a neighbouring state that can generate electricity! Enough of this national embarrassment! 1 Like |

Tareq1105: Jack Gowon did do things like 1.Start the first bank for farmers...what is now the Bank Of Agriculture. 2.Give us our naira 3.NYSC...which while some people may hate on it...is the reason why many rural areas don't lack essential manpower...especially in schools and hospitals. 4.Began expanding the national grid. 5.Helped set up ECOWAS....the treaty signing ECOWAS was signed in Lagos. 6.Kept Nigeria one...yes I know, not everyone likes it, but Nigerian heads of state usually take an oath to that effect. 7.Did try to reform the civil service. 8.Built a lot of projects..including highways... |

We dt have good leaders in Nigeria, this national grid is not working, break it down to mini grids, let's state supply thier own electricity |

Kasssandra: And you believe that the power sector and every other ill plaguing the country can be fixed with the current system in place? The problem with Nigeria is foundational. Until we clear the system off the demons currently holding it down and lay a proper foundation to begin to build on, every other thing will remain a mirage. Generate 50,000 MW when the citizens can feed themselves, who'd buy and pay for the electricity without finding a way to bypass it? Or, better still, where a few can pay for such energy while the looters in charge of the sector keep fritting away the income. How will the generation be sustained? Na just dancing in circles, my brother... |

Re: National Grid Collapses, Plunges Country Into Darkness Again by Nobody: 2:20pm On Sep 26, 2022 |
gaby: Foundation or no, you either run power as a profit making venture, so that there can be enough cash for upgrades, expansion, and no free government money to loot...or we don't and just accept bad power supply as the price to pay for subsidsied power. Having government set prices for anything always results in scarcity, problems with supply and bad service. Because governments want to help too many people at limited cost, which is not possible. Note that I did not say you cannot or we should not restructure or split...whatever we do, if the government still insists on setting prices for power companies, making it difficult for them to make a profit...because the poor have to be helped or something...power supply is going to break down. 1 Like |
