Synopsis
In all his forty years in Nigerian politics, the essential Awo remained the same – a man magnificently gifted, charismatic, competent; Nigeria’s best finance minister to date … a leader possessed of great foresight … a sage, a statesman, a genius.
Chief Obafemi Oyeniyi Awolowo etched his egalitarian standard on the political landscape of Nigeria as premier of the Western Region and carved his niche in “progressive” politics on a plateau which future practitioners of the game will have to ascend to draw inspiration one hundred years from now.
He was a legend in his own lifetime. This book, about his career from 1947 to 1987, testifies to his high profile and pedigree. In eight years, he transformed the economy of the Western Nigeria into the “El Dorado” of West Africa. He brought the first television network to Africa’s footstep in 1959 before quitting office voluntarily. No leader in Nigeria has come close to his record of service to his nation since his death in 1987.

Twenty years after, his immortal legacy is still the yardstick for measuring political correctness in his country
