Baltic Natural Gas Pipeline Opens, Reducing Europe’s Dependence On Russia by bn365: 9:23am On Sep 29, 2022 |
A connection with the newly built Trans Adriatic Pipeline, which carries gas from Azerbaijan, and suppliers of liquefied natural gas that arrives by ship, likely to include Qatar, Algeria and the United States. During the opening ceremony for the Baltic Pipe on Tuesday, Polish Prime Minister Mateusz Morawiecki said: “The era of Russian domination in the field of gas is coming to an end, the era that was marked by blackmail, threats and extortion.” Danish Prime Minister Mette Frederiksen said that “It is vital that we work closely together in Europe to free us from Russian gas as soon as possible. Baltic Pipe is a big step in achieving this.” The Baltic Pipe natural gas pipeline from Norway to Poland via Denmark and the Baltic Sea was inaugurated on Tuesday by the leaders of the three countries, who hailed the new gas link as a crucial move to reduce Europe’s dependence on Russian gas. The Baltic Pipe project, running from the Norwegian sector of the North Sea, crossing Denmark from west to east, and landing in Poland via the Baltic Sea, will bring gas from Norway – a staunch ally of the EU and Western Europe’s largest oil and gas producer – to Poland, which has for years sought to wean itself off Russian energy. Poland has been warning for years that Russian pipelines to Europe are undermining EU energy security and would be used for blackmail. Poland was one of the biggest opponents of the Nord Stream 2 project for another gas pipeline from Russia to Germany. Nord Stream 2 didn’t see the light of day after Germany axed the certification process after Russia invaded Ukraine. Russia, for its part, shut down Nord Stream 1 indefinitely early this month, claiming an inability to repair gas turbines because of the Western sanctions. The Baltic Pipe will be operational with partial capacity from October 1 and could accelerate full-capacity commissioning to the end of November instead of January 1, 2023, as planned, the Danish national transmission system operator Energinet said this weekend.

If Nigeria was well positioned, we would have enjoyed the effects of this war. But for selfish leaders stealing to develop other nations. My question is did countries refunding Abacha loot paid with interests? OneCandleAway: So their country didn't trade with the cash or Nigeria should let go of that fact 1 Like |

omowolewa: Why should they pay with interest. Are they the ones that told African leaders to steal and come and keep in their country? 2 Likes |

If it's not cheap, it's not good news! The citizens are suffering for the amebo of their leaders. You can't get a cheaper gas in Europe than Russia. Pipes run from Russia straight to your rooms. Nansense! 1 Like |

This is one of the reasons I want Nigeria divided or restructured. The gallant Biafran nation would've been making deals with Europe by now, cashing out thru natural gas, instead of waiting for supporter of APC ppl who only know how to loot and pillage. 1 Like |

bn365: Is it your money? So they must depend on Russia forever because of cheap Gas? I also read that the pipeline is from Norway which is a short distance. 1 Like |

bn365: During the opening ceremony for the Baltic Pipe on Tuesday, Polish Prime Minister Mateusz Morawiecki said: “The era of Russian domination in the field of gas is coming to an end, the era that was marked by blackmail, threats and extortion.” This is the answer to your question. It is not about price but about Putin blackmailing, threatening and getting away with what ever rubbish he does because of their so called CHEAP GAS to Western Europe. 1 Like 1 Share |

omowolewa: The point is, it's not their fault that most african leaders are kleptomaniac. Whether they trave or invested with it or not doesn't matter. We don't even really punish the leaders we find out have stashed funds that were stolen abroad e.g Ibori. They even try by letting us know sometimes that money belongs to us. Another country will just keep quiet and swallow the money. Sometimes it's these foreign govt that alert Nigerian govt about the stashed funds. So they are even being graceful by returing it 1 Like |

That statement is what the Russians call "mirroring"' Accuse the other, of what you're doing or plan to do The US on the other hand uses whatever leverage it has for influence and they will wield over the EU HenryTimes: |

I know that you're happy that the US has taken over the oil/gas supply to the EU US interests are not in your interest but no one told you. It's in the US interest to keep Africa poor, so it can be controlled but no one told you, so when the US goes after infrastructure in your country, you automatically think it's because they care about you. China builds railways, ports ETC in countries they are trying to wield their influence, name an infrastructure in your country built by the US. I'll wait seunowa: |
