Nnia Nwodo Needs Help, Not Media Attention. by Newsline09(m): 9:59pm On Oct 02, 2022
• His desperation to become Enugu State's political godfather cannot be explained as an Igbo regional agenda, but as greed and delusion.

It has become a tradition for shameless characters to rear head every election season with their divisive tendencies and rush to hide under regional interests and Igbo political elites just to cow a few.

How long will this go on with us ndi-Igbo? Who is Nnia Nwodo to shove down our throats his diatribe and unholy quest for godfatherism, yet push for such to be a regional agenda?

I thought a man of Nnia Nwodo's caliber should have understood the complexities of our politics by now, and how not to repeat the same old mistake of his and co-travelers that has kept Ndi Igbo at a crossroad.

I woke up to read a viral message credited to the erstwhile President of Ọhaneze who ran the most criminal, corrupt and ineffective leadership of Ọhaneze ndi Igbo, where he used his position to negotiate for contracts, staged ethnic conflicts, where he would demand millions in return for truce, with the amount ending up in his pocket, calling on Ndi Igbo to queue behind vendetta driven Peter Obi and abandon political correctness.

It was the same Nwodo who, under his leadership, reduced the Igbo apex body to a mere political negotiable body and abandoned the responsibility of advancing the course of ndi-Igbo in Nigeria. Nnia Nwodo may be primarily responsible for the so-called marginalization of Ndi-Igbo today, but the helpless old man has chosen to go berserk for his own selfish gain disguised as a regional agenda.

Where was Nnia Nwodo when the same Peter Obi he now wants Ndi-Igbo to blindly follow into the political wilderness was running for the PDP Presidential ticket? Nwodo and his regional interest co-travelers were unable to persuade Igbo elites across the South East to join the PDP and ensure that Peter emerged. Today, Nnia Nwodo is playing the dubious card of developing an affinity for Peter Obi and the Labour Party in his desperate attempt to assume the godfather role in Enugu politics after losing control of the PDP in the state.

Nnia Nwodo's crawling out of his coven to criticize Atiku Abubakar and the PDP party, and call for Ndi-Igbo to instead support Peter Obi's tainted ambition is callous and mendacious. We must assert this fact. He speaks not for ndi Igbo, but his greed and diatribe.

For years, Ndi-Igbo have been politically manipulated as a result of characters such as Nnia Nwodo, who has now resurrected again to continue the same old tales that have been our bane in the country.

Nnia Nwodo's call for PDP members to put Peter Obi and the Labour Party's interests ahead of their own is merely a ruse to further his attempt to seize control of Enugu state politics and the executive branch.

He is instead exploiting the sentiment to gain Peter's support base for his attempt to impose his nephew, Chijioke Edeoga, as Labour Party Governorship Candidate against the rightful winner of the gubernatorial primaries, Mr. Everest Nnaji. Nwodo is also believed to have self-imposed all candidates of the Labour Party in Enugu state against due process and wishes of the party, which has continued to cause irreconcilable differences in the party in Enugu.

It has also been gathered that the former President of Ọhaneze demanded to be paid for his endorsement of the PDP in 2019, which is also responsible for his attack on the party’s presidential candidate and pseudo regional agenda.

With all the emotional gimmick of regional interest, Nwodo and group must be made aware that the Igbos cannot afford to put all their interests on a single platform and must instead make sure that ndi-Igbo are well represented, as was the case in 1979 when Nnamdi Azikiwe was a candidate for president in the then-NPP and Alex Ekwueme was Shehu Shagari's running mate in the NPN, which allowed the Igbos have both the Vice President and Speak of the Congress.

Nnia Nwodo has the right to support any candidate and belong to any political party, as the constitution guarantees every citizen, and not to have his self-aggrandizement misconstrued as a regional interest. Nwodo, a former head of the Igbo apex body, needs to learn how to carry himself and quit behaving like a hired political bully. He mustn’t disparage the PDP to solicit support for his new found interest and selfish desire.

It's unfortunate that, at a time when other regions are assuming central roles and realigning in affairs the of the Nation, names like Nnia Nwodo are still fixated on petty Igbo regional agendas. We must purge traitors who have continued to play with our emotions and vulnerability while claiming to be Igbo political elites.

Nnia Nwodo should have known that emotions have no place in politics and that he must guard against his selfish desires masquerading as regional interests.

It is still undeniable that Atiku Abubakar offers the Igbos a chance for redemption. At this time, Nnia Nwodo and her fellow travelers are in no way positioned to speak for ndi-Igbo.
