Nnamdi Kanu's Release and Peter Obi's Waterloo

The likelihood that Mr. Peter Obi, the Labour Party's presidential candidate, would prevail in the 2023 election may be impacted by Mazi Nnamdi Kanu's release from the Department of State Services (DSS) custody. Kanu is the leader of the proscribed Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB).

On June 28, 2021, Kanu, the head of the group pushing for Biafra to become an independent state, was re-arrested in Kenya and hauled back to Nigeria to resume his treasonous felony trial.

The IPOB leader has been detained by the Nigerian secret police since his claimed unauthorized reentry to the nation. While abroad, he is believed to have made statements that could have threatened the country's corporate existence.

Several Nigerians, especially those in the South-East, were ecstatic yesterday after learning of his release.

Some parties have made predictions about how Kanu's freedom would damage the former governor of Anambra State's ambitions to succeed President Muhammadu Buhari in 2023.

According to Oclocknews, Nnamdi Kanu, a prominent South-East thought leader, had ruled out the idea of the Nigerian government holding elections in the area before his detention.

Nonsensical analogy of a mad man.

Nnamdi Kanu will even enhance Peter Obis chances.

All these children of hate who have vowed that no Igbo will ever be President God punish all of you and your handiwork.

Mazi Nnamdi Kanu does not have any business with Nigeria election or Peter Obi. All he wants is referendum for people to decide where they want to belong. That is the right enshrined both nationally and internationally in various human rights chatters.

No doubt Kanu's release is a bold step towards the return of peace to the SE. Violence & insecurity pays no one.
However, Obi's candidacy will keep enjoying serious support from Igbos despite Kanu's release.
If Obi's movement was solely an Igbo project, I'm sure it would have failed by now. But due to the massive support from non-Igbos because they believe in his person, his candidacy is now appealing to many Nigerians.
The Igbos r mere beneficiaries of the fact that majority of Nigerians bought into Obi's vision for a new Nigeria. It's a win-win situation for everyone because it addresses the Igbo marginalisation at the same time without compromising on competence & accountability in leadership.
