(the USSR signed a treaty with Finalnd guaranteeing its neutraility.)

don't just swallow western propaganda hook line sinker, the main bone of contention was the treatment of Ukrainian citizens of Russian origin in the breakaway regions of doneak and Donbass. There has been a deliberate attempt to subjugate them culturally and politically since Ukraine became pro west, leading to their secession and the Minsk agreement which Ukraine refused to honor even after signing it.
