No fever than 1,000 Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) chieftains from Arugungu and Zuru councils have defected to the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) in Kebbi State.


Receiving the decampees, yesterday, at the party’s secretariat in Birnin Kebbi, state APC chairman, Alhaji Abubakar Kana Zuru, assured them of equal treatment, urging support for the party leadership and government.

One of the defectors, Alhaji Mohammed Sawa, said their defection followed alleged injustice, lies and an uncaring attitude on the part of the PDP to supporters, stating that the party is now history in Argungu Council.

The decampees also cited Governor Abubakar Atiku Bagudu’s exploits in road construction and others as a major attraction.


They equally acknowledged the efforts of APC Zonal Vice-Chairman, Kebbi North, Alhaji Sahabi Lolo, and the developmental strides of Argungu council chairman, Alhaji Salihu Ahmad K.C, who facilitated their movement to the governing party.

Presenting the decampees to the state APC chair, the council boss lauded Governor Bagudu for his exemplary leadership.

He described the decampees as “active and effective party machinery, whose entry into the APC would seal victory for the party at the forthcoming general elections in Argungu emirate.”

SIMILARLY, hundreds of PDP decampees from Zuru emirate were also formally received by the APC leadership in the capital.


Those who spoke on the defection include a youth leader, Isa Wade, Majo Koro, Maisamari Dogo, Alhaji Nura Maifata, Abubakar Sa’idu and one Dagana’o.

They were critical of the PDP, describing it as a loose party that lacks unity of purpose.

The decamped praised Governor Bagudu and the state APC chairman for ensuring the development, societal growth and wellbeing of the citizenry.

They assured the APC leadership that they would faithfully work for the success of the party in Zuru during the 2023 general elections.

Chairman, of APC Elders’ Forum, Alhaji Sani Hukuma Zauro Zannan Gwandu, reassured the new members of equal rights and privileges.
