Pseudepigrapha are falsely attributed works, texts whose claimed author is not the true author.
Pseudepigrapha is a polite way of calling religious writings ‘forgeries’.

In terms of etymology, consider that all pseudepigraphic writings are pseudonymous, but not all pseudonymous writings are pseudepigraphic—the difference is that pseudepigraphic writings use the name of a real person (usually long dead), whereas not all pseudonymous authors are real persons.

From the second century onwards, pseudepigraphic writing became an almost peculiarly Christian Artform.

In biblical studies, the term pseudepigrapha typically refers to an assorted collection of Jewish religious works thought to be written c. 300 BCE to 300 CE.
Several books in the Old Testament are named after real or imagined heroes but do not actually claim to have been written by the persons so named.

In the New Testament, many of the epistles were written using the names of long-dead people in order to attract credibility for the messages they contain. Most New Testament scholars consider the Pauline epistles, Johannine epistles and Catholic Epistles to be pseudepigrapha.
Also found in the Bible are books written anonymously, but which were subsequently attributed to people who were probably not the real authors.
