HISTORY OF ARANDUN
History had it that Aran people left Oyo several years back, Oba Enuyomi who himself was a crown prince of Alafin led his people out of Oyo. This was made possible as a result of the standing order of that time. This order was the privileges and right given to the royal princes of Alafin that at maturity any of the Princes could venture out of Alafin domain and established a new kingdom and Enuyomi being a prince enjoyed this privileges and rights.
As a prince, a velvet dress is very significant and symbolic to his status, more over,a preferred prince. Special velvet was made for him and subsequently the ALARAN the symbolic title of the throne/stool of the community is derived from the velvet apparel.Note that there were other crown princes who departed Oyo Alafin about the same period. These princes were Olupo and Olusin who are of the same queen mother with Alaran. Alaran being the youngest, and because they belong to the same genealogy they shared a common cognomen ‘moje’. It would interest you to know that Olupo, Olusin and Alaran are the first Settlers of Igbomina land.Having left Oyo, Alaran and his people moved southwest and their first settlement was at Aranda near the present day Okeya-Ipo. Their sojourn at Aranda could not last as a result of lack of sufficient fertile land for Agricultural practice which is their majorBecause it is the desire of Enuyomi to establish a new domain separate from that of his father, and because of the standing order, his father the Alafin obliged him to actualize his dream by given him a crown, a velvet dress, (Aran) from where the name Arandun, Aran – Orin or where-ever comes from, A masquerade, an Ifa oracle, Sango magba among other things, would be the symbol of authority and identity in his new stock in trade.
Alaran Enuyomi led them out again, headed further south until a very rich alluvial plain of river Odun was discovered, thus Alaran and his people settled at the bank of the river. This settlement was called Aran Odun or Odun Alaro.

Duro,

You know that Omo-Alaran is part of the Oriki of some Yoruba. Is Aran or velvet imported or there is a local design or origin like Aso_Oke or beads?
