President Muhammadu Buhari has directed the Minister of Water Resources to lead and coordinate with the Ministries of Environment and Transportation as well as State Governments to develop a Comprehensive Plan of Action for Preventing Flood Disaster in Nigeria. The President’s directive, which was conveyed to the Minister in a letter signed by his Chief of Staff, Prof Ibrahim Gambari, said the Plan should be presented to him in 90 days. Jagbajantis intete. Flooding that has been going on for too many years, costing lives and properties. I wonder why it should take them the whole of 90 days to come up with their plan. If it that the professionals have to go to those areas again to find solutions? Is it that the professionals have not repeatedly given solutions to this problem. Is it that they do not know that the rivers need dredging and new dams built? Surely the solution is not rocket science. One thing can be assured, that they will play politics with it. Anyway, what difference will it make, seeing that this government exits in 7 months? Or maybe it will be their parting gifts. |
