Peptic Ulcers is not a new name in the list of health issues and has never been treated as important because it does not sound like AIDs or Cancer.

What is Peptic Ulcer? Ulcer as it is commonly called can be caused by the bacteria
Helicobacter pylori, or a rare syndrome that is known as Zollinger-Ellison syndrome, or excessive use of painkillers like Ibuprofen and Aspirin.
According to Ronald Hsu, a gastroenterologist and Harvard Health Publication, ulcers can be associated with genetics too. It does affect people with the 'O' blood group
Peptic ulcers occur in two ways
I. Gastric ulcer (affecting stomach lining)
ii. Duodenum ulcer(occurs in the upper parts of the small intestine).



An ulcer is mostly caused by this bacteria (Helicobacter pylori). In its number, the bacteria stimulate open sores to develop in the lining of the stomach and the small intestine. It is just like an open injury that you may have may be on your leg and when flies perch on it, you feel the pain. That is what these sores in the stomach and intestines feel like when the stomach acids start to eat up the stomach lining.


The stomach acids consist majorly of Hydrochloric acid which is secreted to help to digest our food. In the case where it is too much that is when you feel pains when you eat some food that can trigger stomach acid or when you starve for too long. Ulcer symptoms vary from burning pain in the stomach, feeling of nausea, belching, loss of appetite, weight loss, heartburn, etc

When the ulcer had become an inflammation that is when it is left untreated. Symptoms like vomiting bloody materials, dark stool with mucous, and even sudden sharp pain in the upper abdomen, internal bleeding, and perforation (Perforated ulcer) can occur.

There are so many foods that you may be asked to avoid such as fried chips or snacks, onion, fruits with high acidic contents like citrus, and tomatoes, caffeine, alcohol, chocolates, over-dependence on painkillers, etc.


Ulcers can be avoided if you are someone who pays attention to your health and well-being.
To prevent ulcers or stop them from resurfacing
You should
1. Please do not skip meals no matter how busy you are.
2. Stop smoking cigarettes.
3. Avoid carbonated drinks that can cause bloating as a result of excess gas in your stomach
4. Be sure to take a probiotic (yoghurt) to cool the burning sensation that you may get if you have eaten spicy food.
