A CHANCE AT LIFE FOR THE FUTURE

One who saves a life, is as though he saves the entire mankind.
The KB KLUB 53rd Annual Philanthropic day themed “A chance at life for the future” set focus on reducing the incidence of early child mortality and improving maternal health.
On the back of a successful 8 week online awareness campaign, the free medical outreach was one with much promise. Mapped at the Christ Gospel Apostolic Church, Egbeda, Alimosho LGA, Lagos State; effective community entry and mobilization built appropriate expectation from dwellers and beyond. Awareness of this community intervention took an upscale turn as the KB KLUB visited Lagos Talks and Top RadioFM media houses, ringing the bells of what will be a power packed philanthropic event.

On the 22nd October 2022, it was time to give. Kbites looking sharp in their jerseys, set up at the aforementioned venue and together with the Omo Adugbo Association in Egbeda, began an awareness march in the early hours of the day to lay emphasis on the need to participate.
Correspondents from Arise news, The Punch, Guardian and Business day were clad with their equipment, ready to see through proceedings of this remarkable event.
The outreach commenced at 10am with an opening prayer from Pastor Emmanuel Olufa, pastor Christ Gospel Apostolic Church, Egbeda. Following this was a health talk on breast and cervical cancer by Dr. Faola from R-Jolad Hospital. It was a pleasing sight to see the attention paid to this talk and the interesting questions directed at the specialist. United in sole purpose, R-Jolad hospital was tremendously supportive in this intervention, coming in as gold sponsors for this event and providing materials and drugs to see to the success of the breast and cervical cancer screening.
DKT international in conjunction with the Rotaract Distrit 9110 demonstrated the practical use of HIV self-testing kits encouraging the need to protect and test for this virus. This was crowned with the distribution of over 500 HIV self-testing kits sponsored by DKT International.
The outreach had a flow from Anthropometry and BMI calculation, Blood sugar and blood pressure tests, breast and cervical screening, medical consultation, drug dispensing and distribution of insecticide treated nets. With dedication to assigned duties through co-operation, we achieved the following:
- Successful screening of 100 women between the ages of 25 and 65 for Breast and Cervical Cancer performed by professionals from the Lagos State Ministry of Health. This procedure was sponsored by R-Jolad hospital.
- Distribution of insecticide-treated nets for 50 pregnant women and children.
- Community health education on the best practices to improve maternal health, Breast & Cervical cancer awareness.
- Free medical consultation and vital health checkups for over 150 women, men and children.
- Distribution of essential drugs to over 150 women, men and children, sponsored by Apoteka Pharmacy.
- Practical demonstration of the use of HIV self-testing kits and distribution of over 500 HIV self-testing kits to men and women sponsored by DKT International.

At the KB KLUB, we believe this is a step in the right direction in seeing the prevalence of early child mortality to a decline and an improvement in the state of maternal health in our region.
“That's one small step for a man, one giant leap for mankind.” – Neil Armstrong
We extend our gratitude to our sponsors and collaborators for sharing in this goal of making positive impact.
Together, we can be the change.
