FCT bans vigilante groups from using firearms
A new Code of Conduct by the FCT security committee has prohibited vigilante groups in the nation’s capital from using firearms for their operations

The Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Security Committee has introduced a Code of Conduct barring members of the vigilante groups operating in the various communities in the territory from using prohibited firearms.

The Director, Information and Communication, FCT, Muhammad Sule, disclosed this in a statement on Sunday in Abuja.

Mr Sule explained that in the newly established Code of Conduct for the group, the security committee also prohibited them from carrying out any operation without the presence of the police or the express approval of the Divisional Police Officer (DPO), in their jurisdiction.

He, however, said that members of the vigilante were permitted to possess and use weapons for self-defence or other lawful purposes as allowed by the DPO.

“These were some of the decisions reached by the FCT Security Committee at its 11th meeting, presided over by the Minister, Federal Capital Territory, Malam Muhammad Bello, in Gwarinpa I District, Abuja.”

“Similarly, the new code required that any member of the group, who recovers a hazardousweapon from a criminal suspect is expected to keep a detailed account and report to the police for further investigation.”

Mr Sule also revealed that the committee permitted the vigilante group to arrest anyone who violated the laws of the land as allowed under the Administration of Criminal Justice Act, 2015.

“It agreed that any community desirous of establishing a vigilante group should apply and obtain the approval of the DPO within the locality.

“On the recruitment of members of the group, the FCT Security Committee, which is the highest decision-making body on security matters, resolved that the process must be supervised by the Community Accountability Forum (CAF) /Security Committee of the community concerned.

“The CAF is to ensure a fair representation of all segments of society and avoid religious, political, and ethnic persuasion.”

The director said that the meeting also agreed that all those to be recruited must be properly profiled by the community leaders and security agencies.

He said that the FCT Administration encouraged communities to form vigilante groups to complement the work of security agencies, especially in gathering intelligence and boosting the fight against criminals.

They failed to give reasons and it doesn't make any sense. Abuja indigenes should instead start stocking up arms and ammunition especially those in very rural areas.

Time that the local vigilante even needs weapons most. When CIA is giving warning on high level threats from bandits.
So the warning from outside intelligence is perfect.

Disarming those that protect the community in this critical time?

They seized arms from the citizens and terrorists to over with ak47.

Something is fishy. People should take USA intelligence report very serious.
Mailafia continue to rest in peace.

TY Danjuma has advised that wherever the bloodthirsty terrorists, kidnappers and herdsmen are getting their high-calibre weapons, that the hapless and helpless villagers should likewise go and get theirs! The useless federal gov’t are either unwilling or unable to fulfil their constitutional role of protecting lives and properties of ALL Nigerians, yet men who want to carry weapons to protect their mothers, wives and kids are told they’re not authorised to carry weapons! Does this make any sense!? Cynics amongst us may even want to suggest that the useless Buhari gov’t wants to give these criminals the upper-hand!

Why do these people think like poisoned rats? How do they expect full grown family mem to fight terrorists with semi/automatic rifles with sticks and stones? And some people still want them in power? Even if Tinubu takes charge with his blueprint stuff, how would you make it work with the insecurities we have in this country.. he would have done well if he chose another party or be a good elder statesman..

To give way for their jihad terrorist and bh.
There is an evil plot going on, the prison break is a good reason for more tight security, but the government thinks disarming vigilante group is the best, Nigerians let's take back our country.
Vote wisely, vote peter obi.
