If you’re working remotely, there’s a good chance you’ve experienced what’s come to be known as “productivity paranoia.” It’s that nagging feeling that you should be doing more, even when you know you’re being productive. And it’s tough to shake. After all, when you’re not in an office, it can be hard to “prove” to yourself or your boss that you’re working. But the good news is there are ways to combat productivity paranoia. Here are four tips:

1. Get dressed for work

Just because you’re working from home doesn’t mean you should work in your pajamas. Getting dressed for work will help put you in the right mindset and make you feel more professional. Even if you’re just putting on a pair of jeans and a t-shirt, getting out of your pajamas will help you feel more like you’re going to work and less like you’re lounging around at home.

2. Set a daily schedule—and stick to it

One of the best ways to combat productivity paranoia is to set a daily schedule—and then stick to it as closely as possible. Of course, there will be days when things come up, and your schedule gets thrown off course. But if you can stick to a general routine, it will help put your mind at ease and make you more productive overall.

3. Take breaks— but not too many

It’s important to take breaks throughout the day. Still, if you find yourself taking too many breaks or spending too much time on social media or other non-work-related activities, it will only fuel your productivity paranoia. Instead, take a few minutes every hour or so to step away from your work and clear your head. Go for a walk, stretch, or take a few deep breaths. Then get back to work feeling refreshed and ready to tackle whatever comes next...
