The Speaker of the Adamawa State House of Assembly, Rt Hon Iya Abbas, is accused to have violated section 29 of the election act by falsifying his statement of age, according to a court case before Justice Abdulaziz Anka of the Federal high court in Yola. Iya Abbas renounced his father due to his desire to run for senator in 2011, according to a paper submitted to the court as evidence.
