Let's see if the ICPC will see this one through.

Former Managing Director of the Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC), E. E. Aguariawodo and former Executive Director, Finance and Administration of the Commission, Timi Alaibe, are to be prosecuted by the Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC) for their alleged involvement in a N2.1billion contract scam .

The duo were alleged to have awarded contracts without budgetary provision, lack of cash backing and payment of mobilisation fees above what is required by law in direct contravention of the ICPC Act 2000 Two companies, Messrs Melbourne Energy Limited and Bafacos International Limited were also indicted and directed to refund the excess funds running into millions of naira collected in respect of various projects awarded by the Commission .

Aguariawodo and Alaibe allegedly signed the contract papers for the award of the canalisation project of Opuama and Tsekelewa River to Messrs Melbourne Energy Limited in 2005 at the cost of N1.2billion Reports of the Investigation conducted by the ICPC operatives revealed that N600million was paid as mobilisation fees to the company, representing 50 percent of the total contract sum in gross violation of laid-down rules and regulations for the award of contract in the country .

It was also discovered that only N200million was provided for in the NDDC Capital Projects between 2004 and 2005 for the canalization, while the NDDC Management led by Aguariawodo alleges awarded a contract to the tune of N1.2billion.

Investigation by the anti-graft agency revealed further that the contractor, despite collecting the sum of N600million mobilisation fees abandoned the project site since 2005.

If these things took place, it is sad. NDDC was setup for our benefit even though OBJ refused to keeep his hands off it, The alleged culprits are our people, maybe in this case the need for punishment can be tempered with mercy.

OLORUNSOGO- IT was a can of worms, weekend, as Minister of Power, Prof. Barth Nnaji, and his Information counterpart, Mr Labaran Maku who were on inspection tour of power projects under the National Integrated Power Projects, NIPP, visited the N30 billion ($220 million) first phase of Olorunsogo power plant.

African countries replacing one colonial master with another, and the new is just as bad, mean and selfish as the former -- repeating history.

Vanguard gathered they were informed that the 304mgw installed capacity eight turbines power plant, built and commissioned five years ago had packed up, as six of the turbines have broken down, leaving only to function at about 60mgw capacity.

The ministers who toured the projects on behalf of the Presidential Steering Committee, headed by Vice President Namadi Sambo, were told by the Acting Chief Executive Officer, CEO of the station, Engr. Mohammed Almu, that the project which was awarded to a Chinese firm, SEPCO Electric Power Construction Corporation in 2002, was commissioned in May 2007. It functioned for barely three years before six of the eight turbines went off due to lack of spare parts and operating manuals in English
