I will get there. . I remember i once had a friend back then in 2009, when he sees people using expensive mobile phones ,his response was he cant imagine himself buying a phn worth 30k cos he believe it a waste but today he is sending solid expensive gadget home and he is also a keen fan and lover of latest Apple iphones. . Have learnt so far that the mind if given opportunities can do amarzingly great things. .

I'm a great lover of art but sometimes, I wonder what motivates people to buy them at such outrageous prices. My total art collection in my house isn't up to 0.000001% of these. cry
Infact, I'm gonna get the picture of monalisa painting and frame it cool

And I can draw as well and I'm here wasting my time.

I just need the kind of passion I have for football to hit me to start drawing again cry

I can draw but the passion isn't really there like before.

This is me trying to draw Ronaldo on the 4th of May and since then I haven't completed it, lol

Although I’m an art lover, I don’t think I can see myself purchasing it even if I had the money unless they are using this means to launder money.

Another money laundering under the guise of selling artworks.

Meanwhile, Vincent Van Gogh was clearly misunderstood during his times as an artist, his 'Starry Night' is a classical example of trying to explain yourself to the boring ears of the bystanders.

Art collections at this level is not money laundering but bragging rights for the super super rich, meaning your friends and acquaintances can come over and marvel at the Picasso hanging on your wall. Money laundering means you are trying to turn dirty money into clean money by later reselling, no guarantee anyone will be willing to pay $100 million for a painting you bought for $50 million even 20 years from now.

Well, that's how the society is now, people value things owned by dead people, that's why people get more famous when they die, you're only celebrated when you're no more.

Is just there. I do buy too but according my pockets. Not a big spender yet but I have friends that can buy something stupid to you for 200k at the instant. Why I said stupid cause is something you won't value to be 10k.

To some, is just the beautification. Others an investment avenue to save money while some is to launder money. Also a lover of poetry can be a good collector because art work is more than words expression, it is poem itself.

One of the friends had a broken art work he bought in the early 2000 for around 5k then, but resell it to my other friend, he sold it at 30k.

I agree with you. Yeah. He is really a great man but it's all just for financial gains. The whites are experts in using sentiments and hyping to increase the value of their own people or things that are from their place.

Stephen0mozzy:
grin These arts na just for bragging rights and the occasional economic gains that comes from reselling when it garners enough sentimental value.

We've all seen better

Money laundering for someone who co-found Microsoft?? You only launder money when the source is not clean. The dude is dead and the proceed of the auctions is been donated to charities that he supported while he was alive.

I'm still wondering why art work should be that expensive,
is it because of the cost of making it?
Or the cost of preserving it?
Is it money laundering?
Or you mean an artist will draw this 12 by 16feet frame within a week or so then charge $1billion for it shocked shocked shocked

There's something the powers that be are not telling us about all this artwork whose purported 'value' is more than the GDP of some states
..

They are master piece
The brush strokes
The texture
Some contain hidden codes
And they vary in cost based on its past owners

All your life (and mine) in the measurement of time is just like a drop of water in the ocean. If we are still on earth 100 years from now (that is a collectable and historic item).

Humans and their stupid ego, what would make a human being to buy a drawing or painting for such outrageous amount, some supposed intellectual or intellectuals would defend this nonsense and call the ART priceless and start quoting nonsense, humans are egoistical animals with stupid thirst for the absurd.
