The subject of eternal salvation has been one of the most controversial topics in Christendom. The reasons are actually not far-fetched. Salvation is the core of Christianity, the topic with the highest importance, which makes it the most sensitive topic.

It is the determining factor of the position of man in life after death. It is what decides if a man would spend life after death in torment or peace. Therefore, care is always taken not to get the topic of salvation wrong and therefore gamble with one’s eternity.

Many people have asked and still ask questions if eternal salvation is real if a believer does not become unsaved again in case he sinned after he has accepted Christ. If sin cannot really take away the believer’s salvation and the existence of what is called Apostasy. As usual, our answers to these questions are going to be coming from God’s manual to humanity, the scriptures.

When we talk of Salvation, what were we really saved from, or perhaps, the question should be what do we need to be saved from? In the beginning, God at creation made man has dominion over all that he has made, animals, grass, things, and so on. But man fell into deception and birthed sin, whose result is death.

Genesis 2:17 But of the tree of the knowledge of good and evil, thou shalt not eat of it: for in the day that thou eatest thereof thou shalt surely die.

Genesis 3:3 But of the fruit of the tree which is in the midst of the garden, God hath said, Ye shall not eat of it, neither shall ye touch it, lest ye die

Romans 5:18-19 Therefore as by the offence of one judgment came upon all men to condemnation; even so by the righteousness of one the free gift came upon all men unto justification of life.

For as by one man's disobedience many were made sinners, so by the obedience of one shall many be made righteous.

By the disobedience of Adam in partaking of the tree of knowledge of good and evil, he invited sin into the world, and the result is death. This death is both eternal and physical.

Sin birthed weakness in the flesh of man and turned upside down the plan in the garden of Eden. However, we must remember that Adam was the one who invited sin into the equation and got humanity to a place of victimization and hopelessness, not God.

God saw the need for men for salvation and manifested the plan he has preconceived before the foundation of the world, which is the coming of Christ to die and resurrect as a sacrifice for the forgiveness of the sins of man and the impartation of eternal life.

Ephesians 1:3-4 Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, who hath blessed us with all spiritual blessings in heavenly places in Christ:

According as he hath chosen us in him before the foundation of the world, that we should be holy and without blame before him in love:

I John 2:1-2 My little children, these things write I unto you, that ye sin not. And if any man sin, we have an advocate with the Father, Jesus Christ the righteous:

And he is the propitiation for our sins: and not for ours only, but also for the sins of the whole world.

The coming of Christ for the salvation of men is not a reaction from God. God already foreknow the possibility of a man making a mess and already made a plan for it. He is omniscient.

When Christ died and was resurrected, he took away the sins of the world, and anyone who believes in him gets their sins washed away, no matter how bad they have been before. God did not just forgive the believer’s sins; He also promised not to remember them anymore!

Jeremiah 31:34 And they shall teach no more every man his neighbour, and every man his brother, saying, Know the LORD: for they shall all know me, from the least of them unto the greatest of them, saith the LORD: for I will forgive their iniquity, and I will remember their sin no more.

Isaiah 43:25 I, even I, am he that blotteth out thy transgressions for mine own sake, and will not remember thy sins.

Hebrews 10:17 And their sins and iniquities will I remember no more.

8:12 For I will be merciful to their unrighteousness, and their sins and their iniquities will I remember no more

Is this salvation made available by God in Christ eternal? Yes, it is. The first reason behind it is that it is all dependent on God from the beginning to the end, and not in any way on the effort of man. Now, if God cannot fail, then we know for sure that the salvation He made available cannot fail.

God impart onto us His own righteousness. He was the one who counted the believer righteous at salvation. The whole payment needed for the process was made by Him. Man’s only part in salvation is receiving by believing. Man has nothing to boast of in the plan of salvation.

If God is the one who saves us, then it’s on Him to keep us saved. If we fall away, especially perhaps because we fall into sin, even while we still did not reject Christ or His sacrifice for our sins, then God failed in His work and His plan is not perfect. But God cannot fail, and He did not fail.

His plans are perfect, He saves us and keeps us. He understands we are a work in progress when it comes to our lifestyle and He gave us His Spirit as a guide to direct us as we work on ourselves. (Romans 4:1-6, John 3:16-18, 10:28, Ephesians 2:9, Hebrews 5:9)

Hebrews 10:14 For by one offering he hath perfected forever them that are sanctified.

Someone may ask then, what about scriptures that talk about losing our salvation, scriptures that talk of falling away?

Well, a good look at those scriptures would show that there must have been a misinterpretation, especially in the context in which they were written.

Let us take one of them for example;

Hebrews 6:4-7 For it is impossible for those who were once enlightened, and have tasted of the heavenly gift, and were made partakers of the Holy Ghost,

And have tasted the good word of God, and the powers of the world to come,

If they shall fall away, to renew them again unto repentance; seeing they crucify to themselves the Son of God afresh, and put him to an open shame.

For the earth which drinketh in the rain that cometh oft upon it, and bringeth forth herbs meet for them by whom it is dressed, receiveth blessing from God:

Many have used these verses to preach that believers do fall away, and would need to be restored or resaved, else they would end up in hell. But believers do not fall away unless they are unbelievers.

Furthermore, the verses above make it clear that anyone who falls away cannot come back to salvation. The scriptures did not say “it is difficult”, it says “it is impossible”, and these are two different terms.

If you think a believer who falls away can be recovered based on this scripture, then you got it wrong, as these scriptures imply that that person you thought fall away and can come back actually never fall away in the first place.

The fact that there is the possibility of coming back into the fold proves that. This is one of the misinterpreted scriptures used to attack the reality of the everlasting life given to us by God in Christ Jesus.

Salvation is eternal, it is an undeniable fact. The scriptures teach us so!

Read that again, slowly. It's not talking about a payment being directly made to someone. It's about the claims of justice. Jesus died on man's behalf, so God would have the legal backing to forgive Man rather than just dismissing His sin. When you hear that Jesus has paid for Man's sins, it means He has died in his place, so God will be just and the justifier of them that will believe in what He did for them. Rather than just dismiss man's sins after the fall, He let Himself take the punishment that that sin deserved because He is not only a merciful God, He is also a just God. Sin has to be punished. But He bore the punishment for us in His own body. That's the payment
