Watched The Terminal ....didn't know it was based on a real person .... verrry interesting and captivating movie. On why he chose to live there we can better understand if we know that all the basic needs of life are available in an International Airport Terminal in a developed country. There are things he can do to earn a living (watch the movie) ... he has shelter from the weather 24/7 ... does not have to face the elements .... a safe environment .... clean always available washroom etc. We also need to consider his status at the time ... illegal... and I'm guessing at the terminal he is in transit and can't be deported ... but then to where? In the end he got legal status and a place to live but went back to live in the terminal.... from which we should learn not that he was crazy ..... but a house is not a home ... his home was the terminal.... guess he wanted to die at home. Don't many in the diaspora after spending yearsssss abroad return home to spend their last days? .. do we say they are crazy?

The Airport Police tried several times to set him up and jailed him but the Poor Homeless man trumped all.

Read Well, it was after Spielberg got him the fame and recognition that he possessed those things you mentioned.... he was initially broke, but due to the numbers of years he used and adaption, he decided to stay back even after he became convenient.
