UI don, CAN caution against voting candidates with questionable character in 2023.

A Criminologist and Senior Lecturer at the University of Ibadan (UI), Dr. Oludayo Tade, has warned that Nigerians must be curious about the personalities that will vie for political posts in 2023, as some of them might be kidnappers that have amassed wealth from the collection of ransoms.

Tade said this at a security summit held at Iseyin, at the weekend, where community stakeholders converged to discuss the lingering cases of kidnapping in Nigeria, especially within and around the community.

The don, who spoke as a guest lecturer at the summit,” challenged the people of Iseyin and its environs to look inward for solutions, as those perpetrating evil acts live among them.

He, however, charged residents to collaborate with the security agents and give information about suspicious people and activities to nip crimes in the bud.

Besides, he advised people to stop what he called ‘social media showoff and also cooperate with neighbouring communities to avoid the movement of criminals flushed out of a particular community into another.

Meanwhile, representatives of the police, Directorate of State Services (DSS), Nigeria Customs Service (NCS), the Nigeria Security and Civil Defense Corps (NSCDC), the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), Nigeria Immigration Service (NIS), Amotekun Corps and Agro Rangers, who spoke as one at the summit, appealed for more support from the people of the community.

Similarly, the Chairman of, Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN), Lagos State Chapter, Dr. S.T.V. Adegbite, yesterday, said that the country needs someone who could lead right and deliver dividends of democracy for all.

He also expressed optimism that God will take control of the country, stressing that Nigeria will not disintegrate but remain an indivisible entity.

Adegbite made the call at the ninth yearly general conference of the Cherubim and Seraphim Unification Church of Nigeria, Lagos State Chapter.

He said: “We must pray and once we pray, God will answer our prayers.

“As Christians, we are not going to push for any candidate, as all the candidates belong to us but I can assure you that God is going to give us a man after His own heart.”

Earlier, the Chairman of the Organisation of African Instituted Church (OAIC), Senior Apostle Julius G. Opasola, commended the Lagos Chapter of the C&S Unification Church of Nigeria for its efforts at uniting the body of Christ while commending the church for extending a hand of fellowship to CAN and the OAIC.

He described the event as historic as it was the first time that OAIC will be represented at a programme organised by the Cherubim and Seraphim

“I want to acknowledge and greet the Chairman of the Lagos State Chapter of the C&S for having the courage and boldness to see that the Church of God must be united by extending an invitation to CAN and OAIC in Lagos. I pray that God will continue to endow you and members of the executive with wisdom and understanding,” he said.

Speaking at the conference, with the theme, “Able God,” Special Apostle Adio expressed his elation at the event, which was his first since he assumed the leadership of the state’s chapter after several years of meritorious service at different levels.

He disclosed that the event would be a melting pot of ideas among eminent leaders and members of the church while enjoining participants to take advantage of the event to fraternise, conjugate and network among themselves and savour the ambience of the host church, the Love of Christ Generation Church pastored by the woman of God, Revd Mother Esther Abimbola Ajayi.
