I recently watched a video on YouTube.

It was a documentary about Belgium now being the "cocaine capital of Europe".

Two things I found very interesting was that profits of 1,500% are made if a successful shipment of cocaine from South America enters Europe.

It said the traffickers modus operandi was to ship 10 containers. Out of those 10 containers, either 1 or 2 are seized. The rest enter in undetected.

I attempted calculating the profits.

Each container carries $1m of cocaine. That's the value from where it's sourced in South America.

1,500% profit margins mean they can be sold for $16m per container.

10 containers at $1m each is $10m

2 are seized but 8 enter. That 8 containers left would sell for $16 x 8 = $128m

If we deduct purchase price, we are left with $128m - $10m = $118m. Not bad for a $10m investment.
