Ahead of the 2023 general election, Youths from the Anambra West Local Government Area of Anambra State, has organised debate for all the political parties and their candidates vying to represent Anambra West State Constituency at the State House of Assembly Awka.

The event which took place, on Sunday, at Ajandu hall, Umuezi-Anam, in the Council Area, was conducted in an open debate and witnessed by the Media, Non-Governmental Organisation, civil society groups, faith-based organisations, political leaders and supporters of the contesting parties.

Reeling out his vision and plans for the Constituency if elected, the Labour Party (LP) Candidate for the State Assembly, Dr. Festus Chukwuemeka, assure the people that he will rehabilitates all the dilapidated Healthcare Centres, School buildings across the communities in Anambra West LGAs.

Chukwuemeka, who arrive the venue with hundreds of his supporters, also promised to established Central Farm Market in the Area in partnership with the State Government to generate revenue for the state and to pave way for job opportunities for youths in the area.

He also promised to render account of his achievement monthly basis via town hall meetings, if given the opportunity to served.

He appealed to the youths to vote for the Labour Party Presidential Candidate, Mr. Peter Obi, himself and all other Labour Party Candidates in Anambra State.

Barrister Ikechukwu Chukwudebelu of the People Democratic Party (PDP) also promised to ensured that the interest of the constituency will be presented and protected at the State House Citing that he has the ability as a Stakeholder from the grassroot to effect such expected dividend to the constituency.

The Youth President in the Council Area, Comrade Simeon Okoye, in his opening address, described the debate as an important landmark in the Constituency's democratic journey saying it would help curbed the practices of godfatherism, deepen democracy and the growing maturity of governance and politics in Anambra West Local Government Area.

He said the debate has given the candidates the opportunity to sell their vision and plans to the Constituency and it has also given the electorate the opportunity to assess the candidates and to choose who will represent their interest without godfatherism at the State Legislative Chambers, Awka, come May, 2023.

According to Okoye, "we the Youth, we have been interested and strongly involved in the leadership and governance of the democratic system in Anambra State and Nigeria; we believe that when credible leaders are elected into public office it will consequently drive development and reduce godfatherism, corruption and poverty to a great degree.”

He noted that similar exercise would also be organised for Obiano's wife, Dr. Ebelechukwu Obiano (APGA Candidate for Senate), Senator Stella Oduah (PDP Candidate for Senate), Dr. Tony Nwoye (Labour Party Candidate for Senate) and all the House of Representatives Candidates from Anambra North Senatorial District.

Other candidates who participate in the debate include; Comrade Chinoso Christian, of the All Progressive Congress (APC), and Hon. Joseph Ngoesera, Social Democratic Party (SDP)

I am disappointed with the Labour Party candidate actually. It's not his job to build anything his job is to make laws. However, all of them had no idea what their job description was.
