The workings of the mind is pretty crazy.. Some people call it multitasking, but in the proper sense, is it even possible? Imagine having 100 percent battery in your phone. Is it possible to use 100 percent to watch movies and use the same 100 percent to play games? Does it not sound ridiculous to you? Even with your phone or your laptop, you realise that you actually have to minimise whatever you are doing to make space and time for any other thing you want to do.

So why do you think your brain is suddenly going to work differently? Let’s be realistic: the mind or the brain is wired to focus on one task at a time.

In fact, what we do not realise is that trying to multitask actually wastes more time than focusing on just one task at a time. Have you tried reading a book and watching a movie at the same time? No, this is too far- fetched. Have you tried watching two things, like watching the news on the television and watching a movie or surfing the internet on your phone?

What happens? You realise your mind is trying so much to focus, which, by the way, is impossible. Well, in this scenario most times, you are likely to be focused on the movie or browsing through your phone and then something from the television piques your interest, if you are watching the news then you need to take a while to catch up on what is being said and you may do a back and forth multiple times in the course of doing these two. At the end of the day, they would not fully concentrate you on both the television and the phone. This, in my opinion, is a distraction. This is for something this simple.

So when next you think of multitasking, ask yourself - am I actually doing two things at a go or am I actually doing even less?
