If you're like me. . .you probably have a million books sitting in your basement and two million more taking up bandwidth space on your PC or ereader, instead of deleting these books or throwing them away. . . how's about we start an online Library for NL readers?

I have't worked out the details yet but knowing the brilliant people we have here. . . I'm sure it would be worked out in no time.

So anyone up for it?

Great!!! We have our first Librarian! Just make sure you have a fierce pair of glasses and perfect your stern librarian look. cheesy

Now we need the "land" to start building the library? Can it be done internally (that is on NL) or do we need to do it externally. . .i.e start another site or blog and post the link here?

Any Ideas?

What's an online library?
Re: Online Library For NL Readers by SisiKill1: 8:53pm On Aug 24, 2011
Oy Veh! Seun. . .okay, maybe calling it a library is being a little ambitious. We're just talking about a one stop shop where NL members can get free books. Many of us have books we've read a million times, instead of throwing them out. . .it would be nice to convert them to PDF and upload it for others. There are also ebooks we can share. . .like there are doing in this thread but without the emailing back and forth. These books will be uploaded for anyone to download anytime they want.

This is a very good idea. I wonder how much space one needs for that.

I need HELP!!

Has anyone come across any website like Youtube where people can upload and download books? The idea is to give NL members free access to these books so we don't have wait on someone to email us the books we want. You go there, log in, browse, see the books you are interested in and download. Shikena!

It can be that easy, yes?

An FYI for writers who want to publish their books. . .

Check BOOKRIX out

The book community that connects authors and readers. Read and discuss free books online. Create, upload and share own books.

Thank you Sisi_Kill. I checked out Bookrix, the very first book I randomly sampled in their novel section was only 3 paragraphs, and terribly written.

As you know, I started Naijastories as a way for us Nigerian writers to improve, and similar sites I recommend include, booksie, writing.com, wattpad, etc.

If Seun is not interested in the Online Library, I'll see if we can make space on NS.

Hi Myne, this is the first I'm hearing of Naijastories. . .sounds interesting. I'll check it out.

Unfortunately, I'm not sure if the on library thingy is gonna happen here. We're having some issues drawing the line between what constitutes piracy and what doesn't but if you can make it happen on NV (I assume you Nigeria Village Square, yes?) I'm totally on board.

By NS, I meant naijastories. And that Piracy is also a concern I have about your idea. People are allowed to lend paper books but I don't know about eBooks.

Lol! Of course, you meant Naijastories. . .don't know what I was thinking. embarassed

About the piracy issues, thereĀ  lots of grey areas. Right now I've got about a dozen of books on my kindle, some downloaded on my PC and I have "loaned" these books out to other users with any type of ereader. As a matter of fact, Kindle allows you to connect your kindle to someone else's and they can download from your library. So does having an ereader like Kindle, Nook, Ipads, ectaco etc negate the whole piracy issues? I dunno. . .that's what I'm looking into.
Re: Online Library For NL Readers by MyneWhite1(f): 4:48am On Aug 27, 2011
I know about kindle and Nook lending. Isn't it like book lending where you're unable to access the book while the other person has, and is reading it?

I am assuming that your online library idea is more like a PDF/ePub barn/bank where anyone can come and download or upload eBooks at any time?

Well, keep me posted.
